BioShock - First Impressions

I've actually played the beginning of this game quite a few times before and didn't really like it. I think that's partly due to being relatively inexperienced to games and also for being a child in terms of trying to look past to see what the themes of any particular game are.

That being said, coming back to it now was very refreshing. It's good, but similar to a game I also talked about today, it's good in spite of its mechanics. The base gameplay here is just as simple, you have freedom of what you can utilize but any particular action is point and click with very little dynamics between plasmids and guns. It's system shocky in that respect but the level design isn't particularly interesting and neither are the enemies, at least so far. System Shock definitely had a lot more to do at any time in terms of your options.

The aesthetics and story though are oh-so-good. Every radio bleeds the message the game is saying, every environment with its own story to tell, every chapter oozing fantastic atmosphere and pacing. It's a big great fuck you to Ayn Rand in every respect and I love it, a deconstruction of the libertarian's dream. So far it's been A+ and though I've been told the story flats out near the endpoint I can't wait to continue it at some point soon.

I was more than half way through this game when my nephew wrote over my game data with his own. SIGH. I haven't brought myself to play it all over again! One day, I'll give it another go.

Oh, boy. Here we go. Let's see if I can avoid puking while I play this. I tried to play it years ago, but FPSs just make me so sick. Maybe if I play during short intervals I'll be able to handle it

There are many, many great games in the world, too many to be able to play them all. If you want a game that you will never forget, then Bioshock is one of the leaders because of the story, environments, and the expectation put upon the player. This is one of the early games which included a morality choice which alters, although admittedly very slightly, the outcome of the game.

The game is not perfect, but it is very close. There is a lot to uncover in the plot and the game is replayable by changing the difficulty setting or selecting different weapons to use. I do not want to discuss any of the story elements because the discovery is worth the adventure. There is a remastered version out there which I highly recommend as this is a game that you will revisit.

Bioshock is a must-play if you enjoy games with depth, intelligence, and humor.

was going to go for a platinum trophy in Bioshock and then just said "screw it". Turned off trophy notifications and its a relief to not have to look for collectibles and junk. I'm going to keep up the no trophy/achievement style, its a lot more fun.

YAY FREE STUFF!

I just realised that anyone with any Bioshock game (1, 2 or Infinite) on Steam automatically gets a free copy of the new HD Remaster. This is cool! Lots of graphical upgrades, new physics, bug fixes and other bells n whistles. This gives me a perfect incentive to give this game another shot.

If you have any of the Bioshock games in your Steam, go to your Steam Library and have a look, you should be pleasantly surprised to see the new items have been delivered. :3

It is incredible how well this game aged. Playing it in 2016, it proved me incredibly engrossing and I finished most of it within a day. It provides a fascinating story, world, atmosphere and tense moment. A must play even by today's standards.

A favorite. Beautiful. Intense. Violent. Fun. Creepy atmosphere. Great story. It's a wallop of a game. Plan on returning to it soon. I played it on XBOX so it'll be a treat playing it on PC with the graphics punched all the way up... You know what, I'm going to start installing this.

I couldn't stop playing this game. It was the story that drove me, not so much the game play. It can get a bit repetitive at times, just shoot enemies. Not too many puzzles to solve. My favorite aspect of the game was the audio diaries. It gave me a glimpse of how life was like in Rapture before it went to hell. Not sure if I found all of them or not. I ended up rescuing all the little sisters and got the happy ending.
