The Game Pass page on my Series X has lists of game recommendations. One of them is “bite-sized games”. Among the list is such short and sweet titles as Final Fantasy X and Batman Arkham Knight.

I tried to take a screenshot but the Series X|S OS does not permit screenshots outside of games.

The final boss is really unbearable. Emphasizes how grindy the game is when I’m too slow and my defense isn’t high enough to live through an attack that hits my entire party and does half their health. Emphasizes how grindy the game is when I’m too slow and my defense isn’t high enough to live through an attack that hits my entire party and does half their health. I have haste and protect on, this isn’t fun anymore. I don’t want to grind AP to get more of the sphere grid and I don’t want to farm resources to get customization to put on my equips. It wouldn’t be so frustrated if it didn’t take 15 minutes just to retry every time I lose. I have collect 10 orbs to get to the boss fight, then I have to watch an unskippable cutscene, and then I have to beat phase 1 of the fight. Why is the orb section even there??

Switching characters mid-battle is neat, there are some points of the story I really liked, and the sphere grid is a neat concept that gives some flexibility on how your characters grow.

I had written a big, detailed thing but it looks like the internet ate it... so here’s a terse summary.

Blitzball turned out ok. I’m in my last season to get the Jupiter Sigil now.

The side quests and mini “games” for powering up the celestial weapons are awful. With the exception of Rikku and Yuna’s, the tasks involved are frustrating and excruciatingly exact while at the same time being super boring. Well, Rikku’s is bad but at least you can just go through the motions and do it even if you don’t win. I’ll probably be skipping Tidus’ because the chocobo race makes me want to rip my hair out. Butterfly catching was awful, they couldn’t give just like a couple more seconds or skip a few red ones? The extra movement (and therefore wasted time) Tidus does after each time you fail also drive me nuts. 10 of every monster everywhere? 200 lightning bolts!? All for such a short segment of the game?

I’m just about to fight Sin on the airship and these things are kind of ruining an otherwise great experience, so I may skip the rest (and the monster arena, and the omega ruins) and beat the game.

Okay, you got me. The Macalania Spring scene def made me cry a little. It also seems like they let Tidus and Yuna’s VAs record this at the same time in the same room so it actually sounded kind of like people talking to each other.

“Hey, so we managed to make Tetra Master way worse than Triple Triad, how can we possibly make an even more awful mini game to frustrate our players?” “...Blitzball?” “Blitzball.”

-Square, probably

Final Fantasy's transition to the Playstation 2 and it's a great entry! I love the worldbuilding in this story as it feels different than a traditional FF without trying too hard. The Sphere Grid is a great way to build your characters how you'd like (I remember my first playthrough making Kimahri a thief by basically sending him to Rikku's grid). The biggest flaw in this title is that the villains are tremendously lacking. Everything else is great.

Spent half of my life playing this one. Over and over again.

Yeah, I know about the flaws and I despise them. But I've spent to much time in Spira.

Really love this game with all my heart.

I‘ve got so many memories that are connected with it in some way. I dare say it kinda shaped some part of my personality.

With every time, that I come back, I get pulled in stronger than before. Still get goosebumps everytime I hear Aurons Theme, every time that Yuna dances for the dead and every time I hear those voices of my beloved characters again.

I never get bored of you, my sweet Final Fantasy. You are - and will always be - a part of me.

See you soon.

My favorite game, shrouded in nostalgia for me. Played on PS2 and then again on the PS3.

There was a time where I thought the worst part of this game was Blitz Ball. But then I rediscovered the inane quests required to obtain the celestial weapons. I think the designers of these tasks were fully taking the piss. That or they are sadists.

Just deleted my game save. I thought I was in the load screen and wasn’t paying attention and deleted instead of loaded my game. I guess this is going back on the shelf.

Everyone keeps talking about how strong Yuna is...but why? What has she done other than agree to kill herself after taking a long hike? What tough choices has she made? Especially with an army of guards taking care of everything for her.

Man that underwater kissing scene came out of nowhere and felt totally unearned. They've had like...3 conversations? Have they even indicated to eachother that they even LIKED eachother? What sparked the romance? What interest do they share? I am so baffled by this scene...
