I made a bold decision and picked Ragnarok sword instead of magicite this time. Which I was uncomfortable with for some reason, but then I realized that the Esper sucks, and minus getting through the 250+ battles for the Paladin Shield, I’ll get to Ultima eventually. Now I have a shiny new toy to boot.

In this play through, Shadow has been leaving my team at a MUCH higher rate than any other time. Does this happen more frequently in this version? He just bounced on me in the middle of Zozo. 😡 I like bringing him here because he can clear pretty much everything by throwing stuff. I’ve never had him leave just in the middle of a dungeon before, it’s always been in the field. I’m pretty sure this always happens randomly, but is there any way to control this?

Finished Final Fantasy 5 5/7 in about 52:39. I didn’t do every single thing. Didn’t get every steal-able rare piece of equipment, missed some blue magic, and didn’t master every job and get to level 99. I did beat Omega and Shinryu, and the last battle was laughably easy, so I was overpowered enough anyways. I think Neo-ExDeath hit me …

I think Neo-ExDeath hit me with dispel and a lightning spell once. This might be the first FF where my characters didn’t break level 50.

Did enjoy: job system (to a point), 3:2 ratio of women to men and they didn’t treat the women like a harem, fun chocobo stuff, the endgame power up and weapon collection, and I like a good boss gauntlet getting to the end.

Did not enjoy: the job level grind, the job system being a means to an end (compared to say, FF Dimensions, where jobs are essential throughout), high encounter rate, meh story/character development.

Started Final Fantasy 5 4/27/20 on my barely running 24 year old PlayStation. So far so good minus the high encounter rate and long loading times. “Who’s idea was it to steal a fucking pirate ship!?” is what I imagine Galuf saying when they censor him. 😎

A port of two excellent SNES RPGs to the Playstation. It adds a handful of FMVs along with a whole lot of agonizing lag. Frankly I'd recommend you stick to the original.
