Ubisoft has great franchises with huge potential, but every time they manage to ruin everything in the most unimaginable way. Watch Dogs is not a bad game; it didn't deserve to receive all that hate at launch, but unfortunately, it's not the game it wants to be either.
Ubisoft have one of the most skilled 3D artist's in the whole industry, the environmental storytelling in their games is always superb, at least for my test. But every time they manage to ruin great worldbuilding and visuals with a boring gameplay loop and a mediocre story at best. The gameplay in Chapter 2 missions starts to resemble Assassin's Creed gameplay; at this point, I realized that I have zero interest in "follow the character" missions straight from 2010 to complete the game. I have enough of it..
I guess I will never come back to this game ever again, unfortunately.
Pros: Great concept with enormous potential.
Cons: Poor execution.
Want to hack everything and cause accidents because...why not? Then this is the game is for you. Super fun.
This game fails to move the needle. The writing is bland with lots of emotional moments that feel unearned (and so not very emotional for the player). This carries over to the characters as well. You we'll meet such interesting characters as "crazy Asian assassin" and "scrappy single mom who's in over her head." Groundbreaking I know. The gameplay compounds the problem, either needing to be more serious or more wacky to stand out in a post GTA-V world. This mediocre title provides some good filler if you have nothing better to do, or if you're looking for a little bit of background before you play the superior Watch Dogs 2. Otherwise you are unlikely to find anything to fall in love with here.
Finally got around to completing this game after having it sitting in my backlog for years, here's a brief summary of my thoughts on the game.

Conclusion: Watch Dogs is a pretty average game, just a meh game. Mediocre at best in many departments and not innovative enough with its specific features like hacking, but it isn't absolutely horrendous either. I'd recommend you play it if you generally enjoy open world games (specially Ubisoft games) and also like the main topics of the game: technology intertwined with social control, revenge with some mystery and hacker stuff. I think you just have to go in knowing what to expect to have a decent time with it.
Disclaimer:I've played the game modded using some "all in one" mod called Refresh. I strongly suggest you also play it modded since the graphical downgrade for this game was so humongous and these mods restore a lot of the E3 demo features and just add a ton of stuff that should've been there in the first place.
Third person action adventure feels a bit like GTA sandbox where play as Aiden Pearce hacktivist vigilante of virtual simulated Chicago. Completed all side missions, most minigames. I didn't like the character development here so much but liked some of the ideas that the characters were based on. Chicago is an interesting setting for a GTA sandbox game like this. In fact, i love the city of Chicago as it is depicted here. Chicago has a lot of flavor and each place you go has a feel to it. It's a fun sandbox type game to roam around in. There is many minigames and things you can do outside the main game, but mostly i just like to wander around and such.
Combat is hard in this game. You can't shoot out of windows and there is more emphasis on stealth. Getting chased by the police is very taxing and stressful (As it should be) I liked that dynamic but the hacking and the way it works is a bit hokey and not that satisfying really. This is in no way a true stealther It's its own thing. (though one of the minigames is a fantastic stealther, in fact most …

Aiden Pearce kills me though. Very inconsistent and hard to read character. I had a lot of trouble getting inside this guys head as i was playing him. Oh he's that good. :P
The Bad Blood DLC was not very memorable and a bit short. As one might expect...

Ho boy, started replaying this to practice my French, it was a pretty good level for me. I was actually not expecting to have THIS much fun with it. There's a lot of fun, extra content to do, sure, mindless, and useless. But damn it's fun to just tour around Chicago with ur favorite car, then take a detour to watch hack the home of some stranger dying of a heart attack while on the phone with his niece, then do a quick detour to bust up some human trafficking scum.
Eventually, I got to the main story too, which is, well, too incredibly nuanced and at this point very dated and done, but it's still kinda interesting. It does feel a little bit different from the other open-world games from that time. The story missions, at least when they are not escort or get detected, are pretty fun.
But I gotta tell you, the biggest takeaway from this game is the weather system. I love how it turns from day to night to rain and storm. It's such an incredible vibe, and just cruising through the …

But I gotta tell you, the biggest takeaway from this game is the weather system. I love how it turns from day to night to rain and storm. It's such an incredible vibe, and just cruising through the city, I such a gem of an experience, and to be honest, it was a very very long time since I had such a genuinely purely fun just for the sake of it time, just hanging out. One of my most memorable experiences was when it started raining and I hopped on the tramway to just cruise around the city and look out the window with the rain and storm going on in the city. To me, it's experiences like this that are absolutely priceless.
Kind of a cross between Assassin's Creed and GTA, this is great title for fans of the genre, with some fun new mechanics mostly centered around the ability to hack a variety of machines and devices in the environment. The plot and main character could use some work though.
As I play through Watch Dogs 2, I take a moment to record my thoughts on the original.
Watch Dogs was a game I was excited to play when it was announced, & I wasn't too upset that they had a "graphical downgrade" it still looked pretty enough for me.
I am a big fan of the TV show "Person of Interest" and I saw this as the closest we'll get to a game of it. And while Aiden was dull as dishwater as characters go, he did remind me of Mr. Reese from the show. My favorite activity in game was stopping crimes, like the show , even if the game handled it poorly.
The game's selling point was it's hacking, and I'd say it did that well. Being able to spy on people through computer cameras was another fun activity, even if they were sometimes immature. And using cameras and technology during combat\stealth sections was polishes feeling. Even the driving felt solid. The mechanics in this game were good, the story...

Aiden is bland brooding hero cliche #26 & the story is a stock standard revenge plot with a piss poor mystery [of course the mobster's the big bad] The ending where we learn Lucky thought Aiden wanted the blackmail footage, not the money, from the Merlaut & had his niece killed for it felt like a dick ending.
The other characters are "meh" at most with T-Bone & Jordie sticking out to me. Guys like "Iraq" looked too goofy for a game that tries to play it straight.
I liked they picked Chicago for the setting. I'm all for games in cities that aren't New York, LA, or a stand-in for them. It was also cool they created the song list on mostly native Chicago artists or songs about Chicago. Unfortunately most those songs weren't to my taste, but I liked the Blues station, good ol' Chicago blues.

8/10
Overall, really really fun and original take on the open-world sandbox game. At least gameplay-wise. Story-wise it's extremely cliched and predictable. I had fun, but I mostly thought that this game was severely overhyped.
Made it to "Planting a Bug", but this game is starting to seem like a repetitive slog. There's not enough depth to the hacking abilities to keep things interesting once you've seen every ability a few times. The story feels generic, and Aiden comes across as flat. I wish they'd committed one way or the other with his character, his "morality" feels jarring and inconsistent. The online mode is needlessly disruptive, but can fortunately be disabled. On a side note, are people really still playing this game online, or did Ubisoft think it was a good idea to send bots after me right as I'm about to activate a tower? Anyway, do not recommend unless you got it free like I did (thank you EGS), play Sleeping Dogs instead.
I actually loved this game when I played it a few years ago on 360. Looking forward to chipping away at my Xbox One and PS4 playthroughs. Something about the GTA like driving mixed with the Chicago scenery really did it for me. I even enjoyed the combat and collectibles quite a bit.
I also picked up Watch Dogs 2 for PS4 as a bundle, though I can't say I will ever get to that one. I played the first 20 minutes on Xbox One a while ago and was pretty much disgusted with the design choices, dialogue, all of it.
This game made me buy 'Oceania' by The Smashing Pumpkins. 🎃

Aiden: lightly presses vehicle accelerator with one toe
NPC pedestrians: THIS GUY DRIVES LIKE A MANIAC!!!
Taking down anyone who doesn’t cover their mouth when they cough lmao

I've always wanted to try being a hacker and this game is indeed the tool for that. But not everything is a sea of roses, especially if there are people we like involved where can die, that's what happens with the protagonist. An action-packed game in a vast city where there is a lot of extra content to do, where the protagonist can improve his Skills throughout the game until he gets to the end of what he's looking for. I found the reputation system cool where it will have influence in the end, I loved doing the side quest "missing person" where every time I got into the area the music got pretty creepy, but the various bugs and other players coming in at the exact moment where I was going on a mission is terrible at best, but I enjoyed the experience.
I had this game and like 10 others sitting on my computer for like 2 years because I'm just lazy and don't do anything else except watch vine compilations on youtube but this summer I finally decided to play these damn games already before I start playing any other games. I played Watch Dogs 2 way before Watch Dogs and I have to say that I'm just bored out of my mind while playing this. I'm usually glued to the screen 7 hours a day when a game really interests me but every time I fire up this game I just do one mission and then I want to exit the game. Maybe I will want to finish it at some point but for now, it's just gonna sit in my computer.
Between Not Tonight and now this, I'm so glad the rest of the world are being forced to experience the nightmare my country is about to become!
