It's still a good time, and Barbara the Barbarian is a vastly better addition than Kiddy Kong, but I had more fun with Origins.

Also, my lasting impression was probably soured a bit by the collectable macguffins unlocking the absolute worst set of endgame bonus levels I've ever seen.

A crazy amount of 2D platformer content is packed into this game. Tons of levels, crisp and clean hand drawn art, creativity in both the art and level design, great music, etc.

So I just played it because I was in the mood of playing a platformer game and it was genuinely awesome, great game design for every single level of the game, best musical levels I´ve seen in a platformer game, pretty addictive.

There are plenty of modern 2D platformers out there (esp. if you have a Nintendo console or are willing to try out indie offerings), but a decade on, you'll have a hard time finding something with the same level of polish that this game has.

Rayman Legends lives up to its name. It is an amazing platformer with colorful artwork, fast paced play and a ton of stuff to do. It’s a direct sequel to the previous installment, Rayman Origins and gives you a huge new game to complete.

The game follows a simple story in which a dark magician splits into five Dark Teensies and captures all the princesses and Good Teensies. It is up to Rayman, Murfy and Globox to save all the Teensies, collect as many Lums as possible and defeat the five Dark Teensies. On your journey, you fight multiple bosses, time trials and running stages in which, you need to time your jumps just right.

You travel trough different worlds, each with a unique theme. You got a forest world, ancient Rome, Mexican dessert, underwater levels and a volcanic wasteland. It gives great variety, and each stage offers some unique puzzles and ways to beat it. Every stage requires some thinking and a different strategy, keeping the game fresh at all times.

Rayman Legends is a very big game. For the price you pay, you get a ton of content. You got the campaign levels in which you must save all the seven hundred Teensies, you got the “Back to Origins” levels, which feels like an entire campaign besides the main one and a lot of different challenge levels, a soccer game, and a nice gallery in which you can see all the unlocked “creatures”, which you earn by scratching open cards that you earn for completing levels. It takes many hours to complete this game and for me, this felt great because I really like arcade platformers like Spyro and Crash Bandicoot in which you need to complete and collect stuff.

Like I said before, the game features some unique and beautiful artwork. Everything looks out of proportion, cartoonish and jolly, and for this game, it works beautifully. The way you unlock portraits and jump into them is really fun and adds to the literal art style of the game. It also has some kind of Gothic theme over it that I really like. The animations and effects are nice to look at and enhances the game.

The music tracks and sound effects are also great. It is just as jolly as the artwork and graphics and has a symphonic vibe over it. I especially liked the music levels, in which popular songs are remixed into a “Rayman Legends 8-bit” variant and you need to perform jumps and dodges in sync with the music.

Rayman Legends is really well balanced. There is a perfect mix between frustration, challenge and fun. It can be hard as bricks and some challenges require many retries or practice, but eventually you will master it and finish the stage. Many stages and tasks are just remembering the patterns but because of the good checkpoint system in place, you can try again in seconds.

There is a complaint from my side however about Rayman Legends. You can compete in online leader boards and ranking in which you can earn points and increase your “awesome score”. This consists of eleven levels and the score can be increased by completing levels in the main story and the Back to Origins levels and by completing challenges and earning a bronze, silver or gold cup for the set time. Reaching level ten is not that hard and will come naturally to you, but to truly beat and complete the game full, you need to reach level eleven, a feat that will require excessive grinding and can take up to a full year of daily challenges to complete, if you only earn bronze cups on the daily challenges. This was really a bummer for me because I do not have the mad skills to beat the best of the world and earn a diamond cup on each challenge. So this is the only trophy that I cannot earn and it bothered me more than it should.

Nevertheless, Rayman Legends is an amazing game, and I would recommend it to everyone.

the best platformer in the ps4

this was great and more than deserves to get a sequel (it should already have gotten one by now tbh), and I am not exaggerating when I say it's the best platformer in the ps4

it left me wanting more so I'll definitely check Rayman returns latter

I kept this game on my "Playing" list for months as I've been mostly playing it with my girlfriend on ocasional weekends. Now that we're done with the main story I felt it was a good moment to put it to rest for a while, though I'm sure to return in the future, as there are loads of content yet to be explored.

Overall, the experience was great, and I count Rayman Legends among my favourite platformers of all time. I loved the art style, music and even the light humour sometimes. Though the controls are not the most polished of the genre, I believe they are good enough to make the game work. There's an incredible variety of levels and the few bosses were different enough to make themselves memorable.

It's a fun game to play casually and a great co-op experience, which I highly recommend to anyone who wants something to play with their partners/kids/friends/etc. It's mostly an easy game, which helps with that. Those who prefer challenge are probably going to take more enjoyment from the very late game levels or going for 100%, I suppose.

This is the game of game that reminds me of how much fun I had with platformers when I was a kid, so I'm very glad to have played. Going to try Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair in the near future, hoping it holds up to Legends.

Graphics are beautiful, although it could have some more effects and visual options on PC, the reason it's not 5 stars for me. Controls are within expect, only reason to complain is the wall run, it's not the best control design there. Very high replay value, very fun, optimal game play hours and lots of features.

I am not a huge platformer fan, but this is a spectacular game.

Rayman Legends loves you and respects you and wants you to be having a good time always. It showers you with rewards, every level unlocking something fun or cute. And those levels! There is an insane amount of content, and a surprising amount of variety within that.

I had heard great things about this game, but never played it because it is a sequel and I am a stickler for chronology. No need to worry, there are a bunch of unlockable levels from the previous title. It really is a joyous explosion of platforming goodness. A fucking delight.

Also, 8-Bit Grannies World Tour IS A DANG MASTERPIECE and I love it.

Beatiful and colorful visuals. Good variety of characters.

The game gets exponentially more difficult and soon becomes a stressful exercise in patience.

It is so fun and fast-paced. Racing through the maps, solving puzzles then moving on to the next area. The gameplay is very thought out with a very quirky aesthetic that makes it even better. I found myself gathering all the collectibles at every level since it really felt like a challenge but it was not quite as frustrating as other games can get. The characters and enemies have really unique and personal designs that were very visually pleasing. Overall this game is an amazing platformer that has gameplay, visuals, and great replay value; it is also a very kid-friendly game!

Rayman Legends is gonna be free on PS+ next month and YOU HAVE TO PLAY IT IF YOU HAVEN'T. Is honestly (along with Rayman Origins) one of the best 2-D platformers out there, even better than some of the Mario games.

I miss when platformers were one of the top genres in videogames.

Completed on PS3.

A fantastic game with beautiful visuals, excellent soundtrack and top-notch controls. Maybe too much recycled/remixed content but that's OK. Oh and the final boss is a bit underwhelming.

If you liked Origins you will love Legends.

The most epic experience yet was the music stage "Castle Rock", which was basically like playing guitar hero through a platformer - I'm probably gonna play it many times more just for the fun of it.

The only negative thing I have to say thus far is that I'm not sold on the levels where you controll a little assistant using touch controls while the AI controls the main character. It makes sense as a 2-player feature (which I'm sure is great fun), but I did not find it particularly fun to do on your own. Be that as it may, Rayman Legends has impressed me, and I look forward to seeing if they can keep the fun up.

I haven't delved deep into Rayman, historically - I played the Raving Rabbids games waaay back, but otherwise I just never had much interaction. While looking for the top-rated games to increase my Wii U collection, I saw this was highly rated on Amazon, and ordered it from eBay.

It starts out as a simple 2D platformer with some interesting play, but then switches to the computer-plays-mode, where your role is reduced to swiping on the gamepad while the AI runs the guy around for you. So it changes from a game, into a set of chores - swipe this, touch that, watch the game progress. Super yay, right! Can't wait to fire up that game and swipe every 15 seconds or so, so the AI can keep on chugging along while I watch. Top notch idea!

Maybe I have avoided the phone-app style games too much and have no appreciation for this, but it seems like these simplistic puzzle mechanics are aimed solely at kids (like 6-12 area). This does nothing for me - there doesn't appear to be a whole lot of hidden goodies or real challenging parts, and it doesn't stand up to Mario Wii U or Mario 3D in terms of playability or enjoyment. I know I'm in my 30s, but I still dig those, and even old NES/SNES games, and new 8-bit stuff like Shovel Knight and AVGN. Rayman Legends just didn't do it for me.

Now I have to ship this off to a friend with kids so it sees some use!
