Originally thought as an exclusive title, Rayman Legends used the Wii U Gamepad for some functionalities. After going multiplatform, the Wii U and PlayStation Vita versions of Rayman Legends gave the ability to control Murphy in certain stages through touch controls. This interaction was removed from the other versions.

Rayman Legends sorta feels like the Donkey Kong Country 3 of the Rayman series. It's still a good time, and Barbara the Barbarian is a vastly better addition than Kiddy Kong, but I had more fun with Origins.

Also, my lasting impression was probably soured a bit by the collectable macguffins unlocking the absolute worst set of endgame bonus levels I've ever seen.

A crazy amount of 2D platformer content is packed into this game. Tons of levels, crisp and clean hand drawn art, creativity in both the art and level design, great music, etc.

Maybe I’m just trying to teach him how to take his time and explore games and to play them exactly how I want to play!

How is the Switch version of this game? I'm somewhat feel like getting it for the third time since it's my 2nd favorite 2D game behind Hollow Knight and it's $10.

Questions:

Have the loading times changed after the launch of this port?

Do the Murfy sections play like the Wii U & PS Vita versions or do they play like the Xbox, Playstation, and PC versions? I'm more of a fan of the latter so this choice is a make or break situation.

Must Play

Top Notch Platformer

I actually quite liked this game. Easy-to-pick-up gameplay but excellent application made for an enjoyable time and some challenging stages. I only really had two complaints.

I actually quite liked this game. Easy-to-pick-up gameplay but excellent application made for an enjoyable time and some challenging stages. I only really had two complaints.

First, I didn't like how you could play the stages out of order. It took away from what little story there was. Especially with the definitive edition, the extra content was enough to keep you entertained if you got bored of the main story; it didn't have to give access to future levels before you got there.

Second, a few of the levels felt like they weren't designed quite right. I say this simply because an ideal platformer will be set up in such a way that if you run through the level, you never lose momentum and can time all your jumps and moves perfectly. A couple of the vertical stages made wonder if that was possible, when losing momentum constantly made me unsure of what kind of jump Rayman was going to do. I feel like I should never question what's going to happen when I press a button. That wasn't always true. That being said, most of the levels had this nailed down, and running through the levels was entertaining and satisfying.

There is a ton of content in this game, especially if you get the definitive edition. If you're into pouring hours and hours into a game and chasing lofty completionist goals, this game is for you. The main collectibles in this game are little guys called Teensies (who were super charming and a ton of fun to find), whom you have to save from the bad guys in each level. I saved almost all the Teensies in each level, and by the time I beat the main story, I had collected about 350 of them. There are over 800 in the game. The rest are found in bonus levels, challenge levels, and throwback levels that I believe are recreated from Rayman Origins. I did some of these, but I do tire of 2D platformers, so I quit at around 400 Teensies.

Overall great game. I'm knocking off a star because of the story, the slight platforming defects, and the repetitiveness of some of the encounters, but it's still a top 5 platformer in my opinion, and the best non-Mario platformer I've played.

Holy crap, I just beat the main story, and there's still half the game left in bonus content. This game is huge.

It's okay

It's ok. The art is nice, but not really my thing. The levels are challenging, but not in a satisfying way to me personally. Felt like I mostly died because of the controls or floatiness rather than poor execution. Played the first 100 Teensy's and a few levels of all difficulties, 5 skulls is definitely most interesting, but still not …

Felt like I mostly died because of the controls or floatiness rather than poor execution. Played the first 100 Teensy's and a few levels of all difficulties, 5 skulls is definitely most interesting, but still not quite on par with some of the more recent stuff I've been playing. Probably excellent 7 years ago, but Ok now. Probably good for younger kids still.

Play this on any console except for the Wii U and the Switch and it is a masterpiece that you can rush through

The art style is amazingly beautiful, even though I'm not sure I prefer it to the one used in Rayman Origins. The touch controls are smart and fun, even though sometimes not precise enough. Everything else is frankly wonderful: it's long, full of content, extremely varied, challenging and full of inventions even in its "more of the samey" approach. A …

Rayman Legends is gonna be free on PS+ next month and YOU HAVE TO PLAY IT IF YOU HAVEN'T. Is honestly (along with Rayman Origins) one of the best 2-D platformers out there, even better than some of the Mario games.

I miss when platformers were one of the top genres in videogames.

Completed on PS3.

A fantastic game with beautiful visuals, excellent soundtrack and top-notch controls. Maybe too much recycled/remixed content but that's OK. Oh and the final boss is a bit underwhelming.

If you liked Origins you will love Legends.

The most epic experience yet was the music stage "Castle Rock", which was basically like playing guitar hero through a platformer - I'm probably gonna play it many times more just for the fun of it.

The only negative thing I have to say thus far is that I'm not sold on the levels where you controll a little assistant using touch controls while the AI controls the main character. It makes sense as a 2-player feature (which I'm sure is great fun), but I did not find it particularly fun to do on your own. Be that as it may, Rayman Legends has impressed me, and I look forward to seeing if they can keep the fun up.

Sadly, the Wii U version has levels that are more designed for multi player with one playing on the wii u pad. Now, a computer controlled character takes over while you have to interact with the pad. It works, but the computer easily misses secrets and does not turn around to try something again. One small complaint, the main menu is boring. I preferred the structure of Rayman Origins

A lot of content for a low price and a Wii U must buy

I'm nowhere near finished, but this is an amazing platformer. It, so far, has topped Originsand even contains a huge chunk of that game as bonus levels! And my wife is enjoying it, too. Huge win all around!
