Post online servers shutdown review

Big improvement over the last title, although that bar was not very high. The online servers are already shut so I only played the single-player content. The Showcase mode tells the story of Rey Mysterio and the match choices & real cut-scenes are good but Rey's kayfabe commentary is so weird and borderline funny. Career mode is alright but it's …

Big improvement over the last title, although that bar was not very high. The online servers are already shut so I only played the single-player content. The Showcase mode tells the story of Rey Mysterio and the match choices & real cut-scenes are good but Rey's kayfabe commentary is so weird and borderline funny. Career mode is alright but it's almost impossible to win multi-man matches like Royal rumble on higher difficulty which can soft-lock progression. Pretty big and good changes in graphics, controls and game physics, and the music is great. Now onto 2k23.

This was a real return to form for the WWE 2K series. Releases had started to become stale and the release of 2K20 was probably an all time low due to the amount of bugs and glitches in the game. The decision to skip the release in 2021 raised a few eyebrows but it proved to pay dividends for 2k. Visually this is the best looking game ever released. The character models (particularly of the current roster) are so realistic. As too are the arenas and production elements.. However its the combat that is probably the most notable change in this edition. The makers stated that the game "hit different", and thats precisely the feeling you get when first booting up the game. Impact physics are much more realistic this year and matches are no longer plagued by the bugs seen in the previous iteration. The community creations never ceases to amaze and in 2k22 there are so many unbelievable creations available to download, made possible by the new depths behind character customisation. A very solid release that has reinvigorated a series that looked down for the count.

Not gonna lie, the Mrs and I bought this solely for GM mode!

I'm somewhat winging it. She's making copious notes.

And we're both having a jolly good time!

A Stepup

This is such a step up from WWE2k20. Even more so from Battlegrounds which was pretty bad. This makes the the franchise feel more fresh. Although it is missing some of my favorite wrestlers.

Not only was this a much-expected step up from the disastrous 2K20, it ended up FAR exceeding my expectations. A solid roster of past and present superstars who look better than they’ve ever looked in video game format (those hair textures are seriously banging!) They packed a lot of content here, Showcase was short but sweet, those transitions between real time into the game were awesome and well narrated on top of that. MyRise offered a solid career mode with a vast variety of storylines, Universe mode was fine but was left a little disappointed with the overall package on offer. GM mode made an underwhelming return, lacking any real depth to keep me engaged for long, still it’s cool to see it back and hopefully it can be built on in future games. I was really pleased with the overall gameplay, it felt good and rarely left me fatigued between the many matches I had, it was also easy to get to grips with which for newcomers can only be a good thing.
