A very long D&D game
A great D&D game, just way too long. I am not done yet! (3/3/03)

OK firing this up. Let's hope the QoL additions to the IWD:EE didn't spoil me, since IWD2 never got an Enhanced Edition.

I have gotten thru the goblin fortress, and have crashed with the airship. Now I need to clear out a whole town of bullied druids and rangers.
Some thoughts:
-Getting fireball on my Sorcerer has made so many combats and events easier

What this game, at least initially, has done so well is to get the player immediately invested in a high stakes, and fast paced story, but then provide several opportunities to explore noncombat options for your group's strategy.
Combat is challenging, but not overly so. The biggest barrier I have found so far is how quickly weaker party members can go from full health to death, with no easy way to bring them back. In the tabletop game there was an unconscious state, that then could progress to death, which would have made some of these sudden turns easier to deal with.
That said, saving frequently, and protecting your wizard and rogue goes a long way to solving this problem.

I even dug up my old strategy guide to help streamline my way thru the game if I get stuck.
