The premise of the game is to complete a series of preset scenarios by successfully building and maintaining amusement parks through business ownership as a theme park entrepreneur. The key to any park is building a large amount and diverse range of rides for the visitors. Players can choose from dozens of roller coaster types and can also build log flumes, carousels, bumper cars, haunted houses, go karts, ferris wheels, and swinging ships, among other rides. The intensity and type of rides must be balanced, as visitors' preferences vary significantly from person to person. For example, some guests prefer exciting rides and have high nausea tolerance levels, while other guests are just the opposite. Read less

Revisiting a childhood favorite

Revisiting RCT for the first time in well over a decade was very enjoyable. It's always fun to play, designing rides is a blast and RCT is a great, relaxing game.

Cons: parks get pretty samey after a while. A lot of forest parks, especially in the second half of the game.

Neutral: if you're looking for an immersive or challenging game, I'd look elsewhere. The game is definitely made to be accessible to all. Outside of Rainbow Valley, the game is pretty easy and goals are not challenging to meet.

This game has its ups and downs. It will take you for a loop, unexpected twists and turns, and keep your head spinning. Sorry, enough of that. I have so many fond memories of playing this game on our first family PC. At first, I was all about death and destruction. Like an evil mastermind I just took out rails in the middle of a coaster at full speed, launching my unfortunate patrons in to the air and away, just to crash violently into a mangled mess below.

Then my older brother taught me the basics, and after that I couldn't put it down. It's so soothing to design your own park at a calm pace, and to see your visitors well fed and happy and have your theme park thriving was very rewarding. Designing it and picking colours, planting trees, food stalls, restrooms, merch stands etc will have you engaged for hours, and you can completely lose the concept of time. Good time.
