There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension (2020)

This was my second play through as I didn’t write a proper review the first time. I think I enjoyed it more this time, because originally the narrator’s voice really drove me up the wall. I guess I got used to it…

But the gameplay is just really cool. It’s a point and click game, but with one layer removed. You are basically playing through a series of games in different dimensions, but with the raw elements of the game? It’s hard to explain. Like you open the menu, and use a hammer to break the sound icon out of it and use that to mute the narrator who shoots out a cursor to click it which you can grab and pop a balloon.

It’s weird but really well done. It constantly is surprising you, has very well designed puzzles (only occasionally moon logic), and just keeps changing things up. The story really doesn’t make sense to me or mean much of anything, but it didn’t matter.

Love meta games, computer sim games, and point and clicks so this was right up my alley. I’m not huge on goofy humor or the annoying voice or the story in this one, but otherwise it’s an outstanding game I would recommend to most anyone.

This is not a review for a not game. That I 'played' for around 5 hours to 100% completion. There is no game, is a game, or rather not a game that trys to convince you to not continue it. It is one of the funniest stories I've gone throught in a while.

Story - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - The point and click adventure, with a funny narrator, is surprising interesting for what it is, withing spoiling, or not spoiling anything, I'm just going to leave this non game story at that.

Gameplay - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Honestly not all of the gameplay is the best, if the game wasn't as funny as it is in both references within the game and in achievements, I probably wouldn't have kept with it, this game somehow manages to keep you entertained even when doing repeative actions with some puzzles.

Sound - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - All, well most, characters are voices, the voicing is extremely good imo, and is definitely what pulls this whole thing together. Amazing VA, background sound, and original soundtrack used for some puzzles, definitely pulls it all together and makes it worth it.

Controls - ⭐⭐⭐ - As a point and click controls are very limited, especially on the switch were it was basically just one button for everything, I have heard some people said it was touchscreen only for them, but for me it played docked with a pro controller just fine. I do somewhat think the experience was easier and more fun then it would be with just a mouse, having played on switch.

Overall - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - I would not suggest this game, I can't believe you read all of this. Stop reading right now! Don't look at it's steam page or eshop page or any other shop. Don't look at any other reviews. Don't play this game! Hey are you listening don't press that purchase button! Hey, hey you, stop that right now!!

I jumped into this game as part of a gameclub, and had heard such good things about it from several reviewers and podcasts.

I will say (spoiler) there is a game here.....

It's super linear and reminiscent of the older point and click adventure games, with the saving grace of the brief duration of the story.

The humor is pretty good and I actually went back for a second playthrough to get achievements and get the humorous dialog.

That said, 9 hours for two passes through and I'm ready to move along to something else.

It wasn't bad, by any stretch, but it won't be something I ever come back to.

Really! No game? I thought it was just a ruse from its prequel to deter me from buying this product but still, it claims that it's not a game? Oh dear... I guess I was naive after all. No sir, this one was playing by its own rules and knowing my curiosity, I had to break them by thinking outside the box.

I learned soon enough that this virtually sentient product has its own history and as I progressed forward, I also learned the truth and was hellbent on setting things right my way. I remember going into nostalgia trip by visiting different video game genres, meeting curious characters and, of course, breaking things along the way and patching up through less ideal means. The intrigue was charming and unique, even the immersion was made by allowing me to participate in the whole trip. The voice acting was silly but I took it for what it was.

Though I keep my hopes up for an actual game (a sequel?) to come, I will remember fondly my encounter with this fellow. You should meet him, too.
