The Game I Didn't Know I Needed
Wowzers, this game HOOKED me. I had it way back on the 3ds and remembered enjoying it, but I must not have stuck with it as a kid. This game takes the charm of the Steamworld series to another level. Wowzers, this game HOOKED me. I had it way back on the 3ds and remembered enjoying it, but I must not have stuck with it as a kid. This game takes the charm of the Steamworld series to another level. Fun, lovable characters with cool designs. They might be a little one dimensional, but for this game it works.
This is a turn based 2d tactical shooter. You take control of Piper Faraday, a Space Captain that lost most of her crew. You travel through a few different areas, fighting increasingly difficult factions of enemies as you progress your way through the story. You slowly meet and recruit new allies to join your crew that have unique abilities and weapon capabilities.
The soundtrack is fantastic. Done by the band Steam Powered Giraffe, who actually appear in the game, which I thought was super cool. They did the soundtrack for the sequel as well, which I am pumped to sink some hours into.
This took me about 20 hours to complete, although I ended up playing on the harder difficulties for most of the game, which I'm sure takes a bit longer.
I've been playing through all the Steamworld games. This one is my favorite so far, and it's not particularly close!
