Cult of the Lamb's primary gameplay loop is superb: Gathering resources through dungeon exploration and combat that you use to manage your cult is addictive and fun. The game does a great job of motivating you to give every aspect some attention, and the art style lends charm, humor and lightheartedness to what would otherwise be a very grim affair.
My only quibble is with the randomized weapons. I know this is a thing in roguelikes, but I had to resort to save scumming toward the end of my playthrough when the game just refused to start me with anything other than hammers (slow) or daggers (weak).
While there's too much roguelike and not enough cult simulator for me, and the postgame is seriously lacking in content (although there's hope for some DLCs down the line), I liked this one!
Really enjoyed this charming game. My wife and I played this together, passing the controller back and forth - her running the cult and me delving into the dungeons
Each of the three components (farm sim, roguelike arena battler, and social space decorator game) would be merely competent on their own but shine when stitched together in the this way.
It was cruising into an easy peasy four star review until I was unable to finish the game due to some 'soft locks' - I would clear an area during the combat mode but be unable to continue.
That has rarely happened to me in my gaming career and while it's unfortunate, I feel like I got an excellent experience nonetheless - we were running out of things to unlock, to be honest!
Why did nobody tell me that this game's music was so good?
Pretty I’ve gotten to the late stage of the game, cult management has become repetitive and a bit boring, still feel like I need to grind more to progress the dungeon. It’s been fun overall though and I plan to come back to finish it.
Oh no… this is extremely addicting….. help….
First time I played it was when it was released and it was fun of sinister cult, Binding of Isaacesque dungeon crawling and animal crossing. When it came as a part of PS Plus last month (AUG 2024) I tried it for a second time. All the improvements I saw they implemented since the first release put a positive spin on the game. There are more things to equip when going out to fight in the dungeons. Also, in your cult (village?) there are more things that can happen.
All in all, it was cool, and it's even better after the updates.
Wanted to finish this but it's happened twice now that the game just unexpectedly closed, and that's demotivating me from going on. Haven't checked yet when the game last auto-saved so maybe seeing how much progress I lost would be the deciding factor.
Local co-op for Cult of the Lamb?! I think I am in paradise.
If I had known that beating the final boss would lock me out of areas preventing resource farming, and that all goods would double in price, I probably wouldn't have finished the game before building my cult out a bit further. It's kind of frustrating that I have to grind all four areas again, in order, just to be able to farm silk again. as a result, I can't build any advanced structures despite having plenty of gold and base resources. It kind of puts a damper on the idea that I was going to have fun just focusing on my cult in the post-game.
