If you got this for free from Epic back in July and haven't tried it yet, this month you can get free DLC just by logging in twice.
Honestly, if you got this for free it is worth trying out just to see the pretty environments they made.

So if you got this for free now is a good time to try this game because there's a free ESO Plus (subscription service) trial until wednesday (2/8).
Despite my disdain for MMOs i'm actually kinda enjoying this. If this was a normal single-player game it would be top 50 at least.

This is free in the Epic store this week:

I remember playing this in beta and not caring for the boring combat and the MMO-ness of it. It's really depressing that we've gone nearly 12 years without a proper single-player TES game and apparently it will take at least 3-5 years until TES 6. :-(

I have made a discovery about this game, I do not like MMOs.

Oof. Haven't played in a bit because I've been super busy lately and man it's kind of boring to go back to. I wanna say it's a Glenumbra thing because it's just not a super interesting locale like a desert or Orc-owned island is. Glenumbra is also like 10x bigger than both previous locations I visited. Also figured out that …

I wanna say it's a Glenumbra thing because it's just not a super interesting locale like a desert or Orc-owned island is. Glenumbra is also like 10x bigger than both previous locations I visited. Also figured out that I can't solo a group dungeon at level baby, no matter how many times I throw myself at a big ol spider. Almost did though, cheesed the first boss, then the 2nd boss I couldn't find a place to cheese and got stuck in a wall after it sent out 15 million adds.
In other gaming related news for me, I got a VR headset and it's pretty sicknasty despite my PC being right on the edge of recommended SteamVR specs. GeForce Experience tells me I'm good tho, so I figured I'd send it. Half-Life Alyx is incredible, but unfortunately the only room where there is enough space and my glasses don't fog up is in use right now, so I guess I'm back on ESO.

Dear Grouvee, please have a pop up when you back out or close the window telling you that you will lose progress because my dumbass just closed the window on a fairly long status update. Idiot proof it for idiots like me plz.
Anyway, I've spent 30 hours in ESO now, here's the positives

Combat is probably the best in an Elder Scrolls game. Melee especially. Light Attack Weaving/Animation Cancelling has my name written on it.
Artstyle is nice, decidedly Elder Scrolls, but textures are muddy, even on Ultra.
Nice details with NPCs and other world building things make explorations fairly fun. You move slower wading through water which is such a weird nice touch. Movement speed is also very comfortable. Not as much fun to explore as Skyrim's simulated world/dungeon-palooza featuring Mods from the Devil May Cry Series, but it be like that.
Quest Design is miles beyond Skyrim's radiant quests and honestly most of its regular quests.
Overall, I'd rather have had a co-op mode for Skyrim, I think, but ESO is a really great experience so far, once I really got started. Unfortunately I don't have any friends playing lol.

Thoughts so far, having cleared the first area of my faction: actually pretty fun so far. Has a decent bit of exploration, the quests seem at least a little more interesting than "go kill 10 wolves because I hate them" but not as interesting as say... Oblivion's Dark Brotherhood. So better than Skyrim or Fallout 4 as far as quest …

So better than Skyrim or Fallout 4 as far as quest design goes lmao. Exploration isn't as exciting as Skyrim, but still pretty decent for an MMO. TBH the only other MMOs I've played are Star Wars The Old Republic and Runescape. So uh... Not much to compare to, Runescape is definitely not my cup of tea anymore, now that I can afford games and free games are much better, and SWTOR had an excellent story but had you overleveled for the zone if you even did any of the side quests by the time I played. So I stopped doing them.

So, kinda weird that you have to go out of your way to start the main story if you have any of the big DLC installed but whatever, it's easy to start. Also I made my character way too short or everyone else is way too tall but whatever. I'll just pretend I'm a Hobbit.

Ok, finished Last of Us Part II, not gonna review it yet, but I'll just say that it is really really good. The pacing is a bit off, but it's a solid game with insane attention to detail. The controversy is way overblown and I feel like the people who complain about it weren't even playing the same game. Or …

Anyway, I'm gonna start The Elder Scrolls Online so uh... Yeah, hopefully it's good.
