Main story finished! Right now, I don't know if I'll give it 3 or 4 stars. The game was fine, with some annoying flaws and a gameplay that definitely can be improved, but was fun and different to other DB games.

Until now, every Dragon Ball Z game I played was "the same as Tenkaichi 3 but worse" but this one is different. It's not better than Tenkaichi 3, but the gameplay is unique a fun, so I'm enjoying it pretty much than I expected.

Started today. I was going to create a female Saiyan or Bu Monster but finally created a strong, tall namekian warrior.

this game is ridiculous to try to 'complete'. best dragon ball game since the budokai and tenkaichi series though!

Let me say this first off -- I'm not a huge fan of fighting games. It's not that I don't enjoy playing them, they're just not my favorite genre. And given the success (or lack thereof) of previous Dragon Ball games, I was very hesitant to pick this one up. After about a week of button-mashing, I wasn't disappointed. Dragon …
Dragon Ball delivers an immersive main story playthrough that lets you create your own character (choosing from Human, Saiyan, Namekian, and even Frieza races) and fight alongside your favorite DBZ heroes and villans through every saga -- from Raditz all the way to Majin Buu -- as you try and restore the correct flow of time and history in the Dragon Ball Universe.
Once you create your player, you'll navigate a "hub world" to decide your gameplay mode. There are a few different modes to play the game, such as online VS battles and co-op quests, but I played solo through the whole thing and didn't really dive into any of part of the game outside of the main and side missions.
The main story play through was great, and I really enjoyed revisiting some of my favorite battles from the the TV series, but you will also spend a lot of time grinding and leveling up through the numerous side missions. The replay value is there as well -- each mission (both from the main story and on side mission) is timed and upon completion, is assigned letter grade, from 'F' (at least I assume there is an 'F', the lowest I ever got was 'C') all the way to a perfect rating of 'Z'.
You can unlock equipment and special moves throughout the game, although I stuck with the same attire the entire game, as I didn't see much value in the equipment. You can also purchase items to help you as you play, such as Health Capsules and Senzu beans, and even mix your own items with materials you recover from doing missions and such. (Let me note I didn't really fool around too much with this because I didn't see much value in it either.)
There are still lots of things to do after you beat the main story -- like finishing the side quests, and I even think there is a way to hunt down Dragon Balls, but I went ahead and closed the book on this game after beating the final boss.
Overall as far as story and game play, I would say this is the best Dragon Ball game to date, and if you're a fan of the series, I definitely recommend playing this one.
