I feel like ODST could have been more. As if the initial pitch was more ambitious, but it was dragged down somewhere in the process. I feel like ODST could have been more. As if the initial pitch was more ambitious, but it was dragged down somewhere in the process. I didn't dislike playing, and there were some fine moments, but it felt like a quick, bolted-on expansion to Halo 3. Which it sort of was? An example of something that, to me, belies a deeper original concept was the VIZR mechanic. Hit X and you bring up this special view where everything is outlined. Friendlies, enemies, interactable objects, etc. It also brightens the screen. And, for reasons unknown, they decided to make the game super dark, so you basically just have the VIZR on all the time until the game decides to get bright, at which time the VIZR makes it too bright, and it must be switched off. It adds nothing to the game. If they increased the games default brightness, and tweaked some ambient light sources the need for it goes away. But its mere existence tells me there may have initially been more there. I don't know, I'm no Halo historian, and I'm gradually playing through the series as more of a curiosity than anything else.

Wtf. It had the best trailer ever, I can't barely remember how much times I did see it, and I expected such a different game... I know it's a dlc, but... Well, it dissapointed me a lot. I still play it completely, so that's a good point.

When I hit those dark streets, got those noir vibes, and heard delicious jazzy music, I got pretty excited about the change of the scenery. But then every time you go find a clue and go into a flashback mission it is just another Halo mission. Oh well! Almost had a great thing going. Still appreciate the different approach and it's nice to get away from the chief for a bit.

This was a fun shooter with an interesting story. I enjoyed the way it was told and it was fun to see the Covenant from a regular soldiers point of view. I found the human weapons really underwhelming this time around though.
