Halo 2

I decided to play the Halo games through for the first time this year.

Wow; this game must have been insane to play for the first time when it came out!

Wow; this game must have been insane to play for the first time when it came out!

While the first game was more introductory and mysterious and contained, this one becomes more expansive and epic in every way.

Firstly, you get to play as Master Chief and the Arbiter which is so awesome, I love seeing both perspectives. The story also contains more cutscenes and dives more into covenant lore and just goes deeper now that you learned the basics in the first. I think this was the logical evolution of the series. I loved the story and lore here. The characters gained more interest here to me than the first.

The action is still extremely satisfying. There are even more weapons to use, including that beloved energy sword and battle rifle. All the weapons feel soooo good (though they nerfed my boy, halo 1 pistol).

The level design was extremely improved from the first. Levels are more unique and action packed. They are way less repetitive than the first game. The game is just such fun and there are many memorable gameplay and story moments.

Can’t believe I hadn’t played this for this long. This is how you do a sequel. I see why people like this so much. Great game. Also now I’m even more interested in the halo lore.

Halo 2 super fun, about equal to its predecessor in that respect. One thing that I was a bit disappointed by was the story. I like that they tried to expand on what was going on in the first one, I just don't like how they did it. In Combat Evolved, I liked how the Covenant was kind of a mysterious, crazy religious alien race. I was glad that all other aspects of their behavior was left to the imagination. Some of the one-liners they say in Halo 2 are so silly, and it detracts from the epic sort of aura I felt from CE. The graphics look super nice in this one, though, and the game-play is super fun. I just think for all the praise this one gets for having a great story, it doesn't live up to the hype. The ending is also super anti-climactic. But enough complaints, it's still a really fun game.

The original was loads of fun and had an interesting story, this game solidly improved upon it's foundations. The ending was pretty disappointing, with a cliffhanger that wasn't even intense. Multiplayer was hours of fun.
