So far I'm very impressed with Obduction. The world is gorgeous. So far the puzzles have been moderate difficulty, I haven't gotten stuck yet. I hope the game has this "overall" puzzle scheme used in Myst and Riven. If you've played them, it's like.. little puzzles scattered around, but they all link to one gigantic overarching puzzle which connects everything together into the mega brain melt (in Riven in particular).

And to paraphrase Rand Miller's documentary about Riven: "we don't want a game that's just a collection of arbitrary Rubiks cubes. Instead, the puzzles should be integrated into the world, normal everyday technology to the inhabitants of that world that feel like puzzles to a stranger."
Also, I love that they've gone full blue screen, none of the crappy 3D models from Myst 5 for NPCs. There's a bunch of subtle nostalgic nods to Myst/Riven, quite subtle, wouldn't noticed unless you're obsessed with their earlier games.
Story is absolutely bizarre and fascinating, can't wait to uncover more details.
My only complaint, and it's not much of a complaint, is that the game is set on earth.. well, it's not earth. But it's earthlings and earth-things. Cars, houses, gas stations. I prefer a total departure from the realities of our experience, strange worlds that are completely alien. My other concern is that the puzzles might be dumbed down for the modern gamer audience, I really hope not. :( I want to spend 6+ months figuring this out like I did with Riven.
But the criticism is only slight, and I've only dipped my toes in. All very good signs so far, I've only played for an hour or so. I'm feeling that is might be a return to form fro Cyan. :)
