Take your Nintendo DS into the Operating Room! Trauma Center: Under the Knife lets YOU play doctor, performing increasingly complex surgeries. At first it's just another day in the O.R., but when a mysterious outbreak sweeps the area, the patients' lives are in your hands--no pressure. The stylus will be your scalpel as you make incisions, anesthetize problem areas, remove tumors, monitor vital signs, apply bandages, and more! Of course, you'll also have to deal with human drama between appointments. Keep a cool head, or you'll be out on the street (and all those years of medical school for nothing).

Oops I removed your left kidney instead of the tumor, my bad.

In this game, we play as Derek Stiles, a rookie surgeon from Los Angeles. The game is set in 2018 where a new artificially created disease begins to spread throughout the city, becoming a pandemic. As it is a new and unknown disease, it has no cure, but Derek, being a descendant of the Greek god of medicine, Asclepius, was born with an ability called "Healing Touch", an ability that allows him to heal diseases considered incurable. During surgeries, the young nurse Angela Thompson (Derek's assistant) stays by his side, helping him with information on the top screen of the DS while the surgery takes place on the lower screen (touch screen). In the main story, you will have to perform 37 surgeries, but after completing the game, 7 more surgeries are unlocked, giving us a total of 44 surgeries. The game addresses very complex themes such as suicide and euthanasia in a phenomenal way. Despite being a game about surgeries, it is not at all unpleasant to look at; in fact, I recommend it for people who are afraid of hospitals to help them overcome their fear. However, I must warn you that the game is very challenging.enter image description here

The Real Trauma is the Input Lag we Made Along the Way
This review is for the Nintendo DS version

I don't know what to make of Trauma Center: Under the Knife.

Published by ATLUS in 2006 for Western release, the game sees you taking control of Dr. Derek Styles as he undergoes a journey through operating patients and resolving crises.

I would have much more to say about the plot if the game didn't actively fight me and my stylus - I played this on a Nintendo DS and now on a Nintendo DS Lite - every step of the way: for one bandage you put on right there's three bandages that you put in the same way will always net you an error, cutting from the center of a tumor to the outside sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, closing a wound sometimes works and sometimes doesn't (the points immediately disappear or don't appear at all).

It's a decent game but it's plagued by small glitches (such as the last one I got on the 1st case you work on with the unbearable blonde nurse, Angie) that force you to restart a single operation up to 5 times.

Interesting, painfully difficult surgeon simulator. Plot is bonkers. Almost dropped it couple times. 3/5
