I bounced off this game a bit because I was playing it wrong. I was treating this as true exploraation game and was wandering aimlessly and running into dead ends and frustration.
After some time away I've started just focusing on the ? in my journal and it's way more fun and I'm excited to push the story forward.

Last night we watched this documentary on the making on Outer Wilds and it's pretty great. It goes into great lengths about all the tweaks and design thinking that went into crafting a whole solar system filled with mysteries.

Irregular reminder that this game is absolutely fantastic. If you, reader, haven't played it, you need to remedy that as soon as you can while reading as little as you can about it. Just know that is a magical relaxing game of exploration and discovery.

I stayed decently un-spoiled on this other than knowing the main gist of how it played out. I love the exploration and the lack of precise direction given, but I've gotten to a point that I'm a little frustrated with the controls and the speed of getting to where I need to go.

I have about 3 or 4 things I need to do and I just need to pick one each time and sometimes I get stuck because of timing or bad controls. I think I'm only about half way through so hopefully doing one of these things opens things up a bit more.

Gave Outer Wilds to my girlfriend to play. I figured that a chil game with a space theme might be a reasonable good first foray into first person gaming. I sat with her saying as little as possible to let her experience this amazing game, save for a few instructions like how to look around with the controller.

It made me appreciate the game's design even more. How the layout of the place and the environment guides the player through all the tutorialising is flawless. For the most part she interacted with all the right things: the model spacecraft, the camera, the zero-g mine and the prove. She even went to the museum and read the important pieces of background information.
Then, as she was lifting off Timber Hearth, she had a destination in mind (Giant's Deep) and could easily find her way around the solar system.
Also, if you already played the game and want to re-experience it, I recommend watching someone playing the game. Even though I know the answer to al the mystery, watching someone exploring the system for the first time, finding that there is a mystery there and react in amazement at stuff it's great. It filled me with joy seeing her confused and amazed the first time she
Man, what an amazing, incredible game. Truly one of my favourites. If you are reading this and haven't played it, do yourself a favour and change that. Don't read anything about it, don't watch any reviews, nothing. Go to it as blind as you can, only knowing that is a chill game about exploration in a toy solar system.

Read morei was super excited to finally play this game when the first screen that popped up told me it's better played with a controller, and apparently some sections further in are difficult to complete wihtout one. i do want to have the best experience possible with this one, but the only (ps3) controller i have is kinda busted, so that really bummed me out. i think there might be a potential fix to the problem (keys pressing by themselves sporadically) around from what i've looked up though, so i might try that before giving up. i could also get a new controller, but an official one where i live is prohibitively expensive, and i don't know much about knock-offs...

My friend's been bugging me to play this for over a year now, and refused to tell me much about the story in order not to spoil it for me. I'm finally getting around to it... and I'm so glad my friend didn't spoil anything. Getting that surprise twenty minutes in was the most amazing thing.

It's incredible how this game made me feel. Illusion, curiosity, guilt for not having known how to learning things before, enthusiasm because I saw clearly that learning was not the weight they make you believe since you are a child in school. I wish I could forget about it and start over, because just listening to the OST makes my hair stand on end and makes me feel strong every time I want to focus on something. I don't know if it serves as a metaphor for "in the end, only knowledge will save us", but of course, listening to "14.3 billion years" and thinking about all that is life and death, is a shiver.

I feel like I'm missing something, here. The controls are absolutely awful (and yes, I'm using a controller) and I haven't seen anything in the 2ish hours I've played that seem worth continuing.
