Finally. I'm emulating Bloodborne above 60 FPS without crashing whenever I hit someone or get hit. Main specs are RTX 4080 Super, Ryzen 7800X3D, 32 GB DDR5.

Digital Foundry released analysis of Bloodborne playing on PC via shadPS4 (hint, hint @killerstar, since you are a big Soulsborne person now 😉).

Confirmed again that souls-like games are not for me. I don't like extremely difficult games and I don't like playing the same section of games over and over again. Bloodbourne has a ton of both.

Great environments, great enemies, and tight controls. I just wish it had difficulty options and more frequent check points.

I appreciate the feeling of growth as I progressed further and further, but there are too many games out there for me to spend endless hours mastering one.

So much progress with ShadPS4 has been going by so quickly, it's insane. I think like last month we were at a title screen but red, now we have audio. Once this gets more stable, I'll most definitely be replaying this since this is by far my favorite FromSoft game.

I do really want to play this but god I can't fathom playing any game at 30 FPS, let alone a fast-paced action game lol

After finishing this game again in its entirety for the second time, it still holds itself as one of my favorite games of all time. What an experience. And I also have to say, I'm so incredibly frustrated that even playing on ps5 the game is locked at 30fps. And yet, despite looking not amazing and running kind-of-poorly, it still …

Oops, I beat Bloodborne again. After finishing up the entire FromSoft library last month with Elden Ring, I decided to go back and do new builds/playthroughs on their games. I started with Bloodborne simply because it was my favorite. I did a new game plus playthrough with Gherman's signature weapon, the burial blade. I cosplayed as the Grim Reaper himself. Bad ass. I also got the chance to play this playthrough on my PS5 which wasn't a ton different from my PS4 aside from loading times being a little faster. New game plus was honestly not difficult, at least the base game. DLC new game plus was brutal hell. Ludwig took me way more tries than he originally did. Living Failures took more tries than they should have. Lady Maria was a fun fight, maybe a little tougher than her original fight in my first playthrough. Orphan of Kos, for some God-Blessed reason, I beat first try. Originally Orphan took me a solid 6-7 attempts, but I absolutely stunted on him here in this playthrough. Yes, Living Failures took me more attempts than Orphan. Finally, Laurence. For some reason I left him as my final boss in the DLC before fighting Gherman and man, he was the toughest fight in this entire playthrough. Took me 2 hours to finally deliver the killing blow. I hate that boss now. I remember struggling originally on Laurence, but nothing like I did here. His move set is unfathomable, and I could never really recognize nor memorize any of his attack patterns. He also hits like a truck in new game plus, and his health pool is massive. Easily the boss that I struggled with the most in my time with Bloodborne. Maybe that's what I deserve for first trying Orphan of Kos. Got a different ending this time around for the trophy, so missed out on the moon presence fight but oh well. Anyways, I'll definitely be returning to Bloodborne at some point with a different build probably on an entirely new character (thinking a Guts type build with Ludwig's Holy Blade then a new game plus with that character using the Holy Moonlight Sword). Bloodborne still holds up fantastically all these years later, and it'll be in my routinely played games for years to come. Still probably my favorite Fromsoft game.

Playing Bloodborne for spooky month since I tried out Alan Wake and didn't vibe with it.

This game is amazing (I know hot take). I love the incentive to attack after getting hurt to get your health back.

All the recent press for Lies of P has got me thinking about Bloodborne again, and since I never shared it here I thought I'd dredge up my old post on the Forbidden Woods. Still one of my favorite 3D levels ever (along with Central Yharnam ofc). What are some of y'all's favorite spaces in games?

enter image description here

All the exploration in the Forbidden Woods is great, but what makes it so particularly endearing for me is the way its narrative throughline conforms to the physical shape of the level.

If you take a look at the map and trace the path players have to follow, it's clear that it's essentially a big figure 8. Players start by Valtr and the Forbidden Woods lantern, head through the village on the bottom loop of the 8, pass through the windmill at the center point (marked "3" on the map), and then run past a thousand million snakes in the upper loop to reach the Shadow of Yharnam.

For the whole first loop of the figure 8 (and for the whole first half of the game), Bloodborne plays it straight, throwing crazed villagers and werewolves at you in standard Victorian horror style. But as you pass through the windmill at the center of the 8 and loop back around, the entire game twists with you. A shadowy figure's head erupts into a nest of snakes and suddenly the rest of the level is tilted at a constant downslope, with the player literally descending to the depths of the forest as the enemies around them steadily dip towards the unearthly insanity that defines the rest of the game. And when you reach the lowest point, there's the Shadow of Yharnam, whose phase changes mirror the narrative of the level by starting out fairly pedestrian and ending with gigantic fucking snakes raining down around you at all angles.

Basically, the entire story of the game twists around that central point of the figure 8. Once you pass through that lens your whole perspective is irrevocably altered, and I just think it's so cool how the narrative and spatial turning points of the level are one and the same thing.

Pero qué nivel de detalle, que escenarios, que diseño de mapeado. Que forma de narrar una historia y atraparte en el miedo.

Ojalá hubiera un modo fácil para que todo el mundo disfrutase de esta obra de arte.

Oh, querido cazador.

As someone who tried almost all souls games and finished Elden ring, Bloodborne is a major factor in me buying a PS5 . It gave me a fantastic experience even though 30 fps and dated graphics. The lovecraftian horror and the environment , character design, truly a masterpiece. The gameplay differences from other souls games took some getting used to, like the source of health being something we can loot and there are 20 of them made me a scrub chugger. Though the parry system being less forgiving was a welcome change. The parry system in other souls game (except sekiro) were something I tried to do once ( and end up getting hit many times) and when I finally land it , I'm like "nope, not doing that again". I've yet to explore the other endings and the DLC, which I'll do soon enough.

After finding the chalice dungeon to get enough blood echoes to buy Blood Vials and pretend the healing works like Estus Flasks? Incredible, top 3 from soft.

Before that, having to farm for them, and with how loading and performance works? Genuinely hard to play, not in the good way.

I have reached the Blood Moon in this game. Granted, I needed NPC help to beat two bosses, but honestly I am ok with that.

So far I am most impressed with the visual direction of the game, and the general vibe that it has. Its a great combination of spooky and action.

I might even beat it!
