Players move their character throughout the medieval fantasy world of Norrath, often fighting monsters and enemies for treasure and experience points, and optionally mastering trade skills. As they progress, players advance in level, gaining power, prestige, spells, and abilities through valorous deeds such as entering overrun castles and keeps, defeating worthy opponents found within, and looting their remains. Experience and prestigious equipment can also be obtained by completing quests given out by non-player characters found throughout the land. EverQuest allows players to interact with other people through role-play, joining player guilds, and dueling other players (in restricted situations – EverQuest only allows player versus player (PVP) combat on the PvP-specific server, specified arena zones and through agreed upon dueling). When I learned that I really loved RPGs in all that they do, I kept an eye out for their aspects in game magazines. One day I saw a full page ad for Everquest. My adolescent mind exploded. I was desperate to try it out. Except I needed my moms permission to get a subscription. She said no. Crushing disappointment followed.

I put Everyquest in the back of my brain, never thinking I could actually play it. Even after growing up and diving into WoW and other MMO's, I've never tried the OG that inspired them all, until now.

Oh boy, it does not age well. My childhood self would have had the patience to comb through its UI but I couldn't do it. I hard quit after 15 minutes.

All is not lost. My dwarf paladin slayed the most evil incarnate beast, known as the 'Rabbit'. Fear not denizens of Everquest, you may adventure safely now!

Initially played this game on PC, then transitioned to Macintosh for years after. Unfortunately the Macintosh servers were shut down, and I can no longer play without purchasing a PC.

By far my favorite game that I've ever played, I'll always cherish it.
