Super Darius is a 1990 port of Darius for the PC Engine CD-ROM, and the only attempt at an accurate port of the game for many years; it even uses recordings of music and sound effects straight from the PCB! Its other claim to fame is the introduction of all 26 bosses from the original draft for Darius, some of which were earlier seen on promotional material and some of which were used in Darius II instead. A "light" version for normal PC Engines, Darius Plus, was released later in the year. At the time that was released, owning both versions allowed you to get Darius Alpha. Super Darius was also included in the list of games available for the PC Engine CoreGrafx Mini in March 19, 2020, available in all the regions. Read less

Ok but it's a mediocre horizontal scrolling shooter, and there are better versions of it out there.

Ah Darius.. I've long known you and I still return time and time again to play another port! Surely, the Turbo-CD version of this classic is worth checking out right? (I mean, the Turbo-CD is a console like the Dreamcast in that... it is full of quality STG/SHMUP titles!) enter image description here Well, first of all the game looks and plays very similiar …

Ah Darius.. I've long known you and I still return time and time again to play another port! Surely, the Turbo-CD version of this classic is worth checking out right? (I mean, the Turbo-CD is a console like the Dreamcast in that... it is full of quality STG/SHMUP titles!) enter image description here Well, first of all the game looks and plays very similiar to the original basic TG16 HuCard version for SuperGrafx (Darius Plus) While that is understandable and oftentimes a CD version of a game features cutscees or better music (redbook audio) So what do we get here?

Suprisingly not much. The music is DIFFERENT but it does not sound like a recorded audio cd. I also dont actaully like this version of the music as much (with the exception of one track) as the chippier version on the TG16. (Just personal preference maybe) The game still flickers in some places. There's no fully voiced cutscenes or anything like that here. Nadda thing.

Nothing about it is particularly bad its just not as good as the SuperGrafx version. There are some programming and boss differences but oh well.
