Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020)

Alright, I had high expectations coming into this game and I have to say it definitely fulfilled them. The game doesn't waste any time throwing you right into the action with a tag team sequence fighting a villian with Peter, serving as the tutorial but also not slowing anything down, the mission then culminates with Pete telling Miles he has to leave for Europe and that protecting the city is solely on Miles shoulders now..

Gameplay:8

• Fluid, high action gameplay similar to the first but improved on (Miles has some different powers)
• Shorter game but a new game+ mode adds some replayablity with a couple new unlocks
• Only a couple gadgets, wouldn't mind more but with the size of the game it works out well
• A perfect blend between story and action
• Wish they could've utilized the PS5 controller better, but that's alright.

• One of the best parts of the game, emotional and proggresive
• Expands on the Spider-Man Insomniac universe and opens the doors wide open for the potential team-up in the next game
• Some of the side-quests in this game are amazing, (Pete sending you to ESU)

Graphics:9

• Probably biased, this is the first game I've played on my new PS5 and I'm blown away, the ray tracing effects and added lighting/shadows are very immersive
• Lots of colorful graffiti around which alot of it I can only assume was done by Mile's friend Hailey who I love, really hope they open up the connection to them in future games.
• Has multiple framerate modes, with me mostly playing on the Fidelity Mode (30FPS all graphic enhancements on) but it's hard to go back from viewing the Performace RT mode which is 60FPS with ray-tracing, but holds back on everything else.

Soundtrack:8

• Game has a great soundtrack with a emphasis on hip-hop, not alot of actual songs but Jaden Smith comes through with a theme song.
• The game explores the connection between Miles and music which I love, as music is a big part of my life also.

The game is more then just a re-skin of the original, it tells a different story about different struggles and really opens you up to the little side characters you see, but they do a great job on exploring the relationships with the people of New York/Harlem. I am very impressed with this Spider-Man universe Insomniac has built and hope the next game we get to play as a fully fledged Peter and Miles, it's set-up beautifully for that.

All in all I give the game a 4/5, withholding 5 stars because it is pretty similar to the original

Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the 2nd Spider-Man game made by Insomniac. The game was a pretty important project, because it's a PS5 launch title, but they once again delivered a product of Great quality.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales has everything you loved about the previous game, but it's slightly better. It tells the story of Miles Morales, the other, inexperienced spidey... And the game does a Great job with showing you that he's indeed, a newbie. You are more of a friendly neighborhood spidey rather than a big scale superhero, and it's absolutely awesome. Miles feels weaker, less gadgets, worse spider sense, medicore air movement and i absolutely love it. At the same time it doesn't feel like he's under powered, his kit is absolutely awesome and he plays really differently than Peter Parker. The game offers more of the same things that you loved in previous spider-man, but altered. Different combat with new abilities and gadgets, new challenges fitting the rising hero, quests designed for lowered tier spidey and more stuff like that. The story is top notch once again, interesting and goose bumpy from start till the end, with great movie-like action.

The game works like bread and butter and is absolutely stunning, ray tracing is insane and visuals in 4K with HDR are breathtaking. You can also experience new DualSense features, because they made great use of them. Just a great title to start the new generation with a bang.

There is really nothing more to say, Spider-Man made better with different mechanics so it's not the same game as before. I consider the previous game a masterpiece so is Miles Morales. The game is a little short, not too short tho, we sometimes need shorter games these days.

First PS5 game I played. Graphics were brilliant and 60FPS made it a pleasure to play on the big screen. The Dualsense features were pretty sparse but still appreciated.

Actual game was so-so. Main story was fairly engaging although the main baddie (Phin?) was boring and I didn't care about the friendship between her and Miles. Miles himself was really likeable, even moreso than Peter. Gameplay was above average but not great, swinging felt awesome, combat was pretty decent but a bit tired at this point. My favourite part of the game was probably the different challenges that Peter gives you to do. Facial animations are so bad, as are the character models faces. No desire to do any of the map marker bullshit in this game at all.

What a fantastic sequel to the already great Spider-Man game. No more beating around the bush missions (solving yet another puzzle to identify a virus or help the supervillain become a supervillain, wannabe stealth missions...), a new phone that lets you select different side missions, 2-second fast travel, finally proper quick time events, an updated and "blackened" soundtrack and... 60 FPS swinging!

It makes just enough improvements to be refreshing, considering its really short story and equally scarce side missions, both of which I enjoyed more than in the prequel.

Some issues I had with it are still there: Plenty of useless suits with way too specific powers, and the same can be said about some of what the skill tree has to offer. But along with some other minor details that bothered me slightly, nothing is strong enough to remove a star from my rating.

Five stars for Miles Morales.

Despite what Sony has said, this does feel closer to an expansion than a full game. I was shocked by how soon I got the end game warning telling me there is no going back until the game is over. The game is short, and other than a few special Miles-specific abilities, it feels like I'm just getting more of the 2018 game. Spider-Man was good, so that's not a bad thing.

The new abilities are cool. Combat now heavily relies on Miles's bio-electric abilities which Peter doesn't have. Hitting enemies with Miles's bio-electric attacks puts them in an electrified state making my attacks deal more damage. Some enemies have a special shield that require me to use these bio-electric attacks to break through defenses. Combat relies on these attacks which makes combat feel fresh if nothing else. Miles also can cloak which I didn't need to use that much. Unless a mission required it, I only ever used cloaking to escape enemies after failing at stealth to try again. There are ways to use stealth in combat such as using Miles's bio-electric punch while cloaked can deal more damage to enemies, but I rarely used it. I didn't feel like I needed it in the way I needed the bio-electric abilities.

The story has some rough parts. I noticed characters attitudes shifting quickly without cause. The main villain had Doc Ock's stubbornness without the excuse of having robotic tentacles putting voices in their head. It makes the villain's story line feel forced when they seemed like a person who would be more reasonable and could hash things out with a conversation.

As a lead character, Miles is fine. He has the same bad sense of humor that Peter Parker has which annoyed me in the original game. Luckily, this game is short, so I didn't have to hear too many bad jokes. I'm not a fan of him or Peter. There is a difference between the Spider-Men the game brings up that bugs me. The people of Harlem make a point to say they are happy to have Miles around because he's a Spider-Man that cares about Harlem. This implies that Peter doesn't care about Harlem which doesn't sound like Peter Parker. If this is true, it's fucked up. Peter should have been interrogated about it in the game, but he never is. It's strange that the game doesn't address that.
