A wonderfully themed game with naturally, a great soundtrack, and great voice performances. However the game is hampered with the bizarre game decision that an RTS-style focus was the best way to convey the game's theme and vibe. The action adventure slashing and bashing sections are awesome and plays well, the RTS sections are a weird shift and take too much of the runtime.
Overall though, if you're a metal fan, you MUST play this game.
In honor of Ozzy's death, Brutal Legend is free on itch.io for the next 666 minutes! Well worth checking out at that price, so long as you're not totally averse to RTS games.
A lot of people rated this game a 3 and that's fine, the game was made for lovers of metal and rock and it really holds itself to that. If you aren't already invested in this concept then it might not be so appealing as a stand-alone game but if you are truly passionate about great music, this game is a bloody amazing experience... and yes, it has Jack Black, totally awesome all-together.
A very surprising 3rd-person-action-turned-RTS. I found the theme and ideas refreshing and comedic. I think it was a wise decision by DoubleFine to go with comedy, as a serious rendition of METAL LEGENDS would strike me as ridiculous.
The control for mouse+keyboard was pretty bad, especially the radial menus, but having played on "easy" difficulty, it was OK.
