Little Witch Nobeta is a new indie game in the growing anime-souls genre. You play as a cute little witch, and you've arrived at a castle to fight against cute anime monsters and to acquire some arbitrary McGuffin or something.

The gameplay has a lot of the souls characterists: third person view, stamina bar, dodge-roll (with i-frames), large medieval levels filled with critters and difficult encounters and boss fights. Don't be fooled by the cute appearance of this game: it's actually really tough.
The game brings a lot of unique stuff to the table though. The primary way of dealing damage is with spells, which you shoot from your wand. I tried playing with both kb/m and controller, and I found that controller worked much better for me, using the auto-aim. If you run out of mana, you can strike enemies with your wand or use perfectly-timed dodges to recharge. The levels are well-designed, the bosses are challenging but fair, and the whole experience had much more polish than I expected. I really enjoyed it.

Most of the enemies and bosses are anime waifus, in fitting with the theme of the experience. My only complaint is that I wish there was more. The current early access build on Steam only has three zones (each with a boss). It took me 6 hours to complete; I'm very much looking forward to the final version, hopefully they add lots more content. Even in current state, it's worth the price, and there are harder difficulty modes and NG+.
(Will update score on final release. I would have given it full marks if it was a longer and completed experience, with a conclusion to the story).
