I play this on and off. I come back every few months, play a few runs, then leave. I think one of the most fun things for me in a roguelike is getting wacky item combos, and this is where I feel 30XX is lacking. I don't feel like I often get some crazy combo where my shots spin but also detonate and also penetrate and also spawn helpful bats. I find the boss fights to be too chaotic (mostly later in a run). And the backgrounds are also a bit busy for me. Looks great, but I wish I could tone them down a bit, since sometimes it blends with the foreground. The new character is fun, though. He's a mix of Nina and Ace, and I like him.
Great game if you like megaman x and a challenge. I wound up refunding after 2 hours because the local coop is not optimized for platforming but then after giving it some more time solo and practice wound up absolutely loving it ! So many items and decisions you make each run which keeps the game fresh and fun . I feel so strong and satisfied with so many of the items and combos. Give the game a shot for sure !
So I'm not saying it's bad but...for some reason it feels like it's lacking something. I loved 20XX and played a good amount of it. Sure, this looks better for sure. But it feels like there's less item diversity, and the levels feel repetitive. As in, the clockwork level feels kind of the same every time even though it's not. It's been a couple years since I really played 20XX, so maybe I'm misremembering it. But I just feel like there's something missing. And, sure, it's in early access, but it has been so for a year, almost to the day! I'll play a little more. We'll see.
wow! big improvement over the first game! from the moment i booted it up i was impressed at the new graphics, and everything just feels smoother.
the level themes are amazing, they all have such great aesthetics, the backgrounds are beautiful.
some really clever boss fight mechanics. was delighted when i realized how some of them worked.
finished a run at base difficulty in co-op, which is currently 6 levels and no final stage. looking forward to where it goes from here.
