During your adventure, you will battle Team Magma in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Team Aqua in Pokémon Alpha Sapphire. Team Magma seeks to increase the land, while Team Aqua wishes to increase the seas. In order to bring about these grand plans, each will turn to the power of a Legendary Pokémon: Groudon or Kyogre. Team Magma pursues Groudon, while Team Aqua goes after Kyogre. What could be driving them to such lengths?

The absolute best 3D Pokemon Game
This review is for the Nintendo 3DS version

As I have stated Previously Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver (HGSS) are one of two games I would keep from the Pokemon franchise. Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire (ORAS) would be the other one. The original Ruby/Sapphire (RS) was the first game in the series that I bought with my own money and completed without any help from friends or family. So the story and monsters from Hoenn have a special place in my heart and they always will. BUT NOW THEY CAN MEGA EVOLVE AND THAT'S F#!@ING DOPE AS HELL! The developers seemed to work out some of the visual difficulties they had with Pokemon X and Y, and the story of the original game was only enhanced by adding the Mega Evolution elements. Flying through the sky on Latios/Latias was so much fun and even as an adult I was mesmerized by the idea of flying over this region that had given me so many hours of enjoyment a full decade earlier.

The games sound was not perfect, but I mostly blame that on the hardware of the 3DS and the developers maybe being a bit too ambitious with what it could be. either way it wasn't bad just not to …

The visual aspects were again hindered more by the hardware than anything else, something that constantly plagues Nintendo games.

If you were going to play any two games in the series I would recommend this one and HGSS. The rom hack scene has not quite made its way to either yet but when they do I cannot wait for the possibilities therein.

megaturbo's review of Pokémon Alpha Sapphire
This review is for the Nintendo 3DS version

Beat it because I’d talked to a friend about it but I don’t like the Pokémon formula. No real challenge if you know the type advantages but you have to hassle and grind. Too old for this.

A trip to Hoenn
This review is for the Nintendo 3DS version

It's been a while since I played a Pokemon game until the end. Lord knows I've been postponing my trip through Hoenn for a long time. Well, I decided to take this trip and I'm really glad I did.

AlphaSapphire managed to rekindle my love for Pokemon.

Starting by the presentation, I know that Pokemon games are very simple and hardly ever bring anything cutting edge to the table, but where it lacks in novelty, it compensates in winsomeness. From the cities, to the map, gyms, monster design, environments and even those repetitive dungeons and fights - This game is adorable and it throws the cutesy factor in your face. And it works! It blends well with the classic turn-based battle system and fits like a glove with its monster design. Gen 3 Pokemon are amazing and it made want to catch, hunt and seek almost every Pokemon on this Pokedex.

A few quality of life improvements helped the game to become more agile. AlphaSapphire makes some old Pokemon games seem like a chore. It's a bit fast, slicker, and even more accessible than before. Its new gameplay quirks made the loop even more addictive. For example EXP Share, which …

A few quality of life improvements helped the game to become more agile. AlphaSapphire makes some old Pokemon games seem like a chore. It's a bit fast, slicker, and even more accessible than before. Its new gameplay quirks made the loop even more addictive. For example EXP Share, which is a godsend mechanic.

All in all, AlphaSapphire was one of the chillest Pokemon games I've played. And that casual design philosophy didn't bother me at all. I loved battling gym leaders, elite four, the aqua team and hunting legendary creatures. I took my time with it and I was rewarded for it.

But not everything is flowers in Hoenn. AlphaSapphire may have improved on the classic formula, but forgot to fix a few flaws. They masked them well, but they're there.

This game is still a grind fest, especially if you want to rematch Elite 4, catch legendary Pokemon or even battle online. The story sucks, as usual, and although the amount of content make up for it, even Delta Episode felt a bit dull. HMs are still a thing here and there are LOTS of them. And the soundtrack... My god, it's BAD!

Also, why the Mirage Spots mechanic? Were they really necessary? I get that it's a way to cram many legendary monsters into this game, but it ended up being a confusing, complex and uninviting hot mess!

A few other things slowed down my experience. Useless systems like 'super training', 'fashion show', 'planting berries'. Those were some of the things that were so unnecessary that I forgot them halfway through the game. I mean, was the 'secret base' system THAT fun and useful? I didn't think so...

AlphaSapphire brought my heart back to Pokemon. It's not only a great game in the series, but a good JRPG, in general. Old flaws and conservative design mechanics do weigh down and the grind makes the experience repetitive, but nothing broke it for me.

My trip to Hoenn was worth it and I'll won't forget it so soon.

It's still a fun and enjoyable experience, but at times ORAS feels stuck in the past

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire manage to feel fresh and fun despite being a remake, although Pokemon still feels stuck in the past in many ways. It's about time for them to start taking bigger risks when developing new Pokemon games, with new mechanics and big changes to the way you go about your adventure. What we have now is fun, true, and ORAS do have some advancements that feel neat for a time, such as the Eon Flute, new mega evolutions, hidden Pokemon, and the return of secret bases. The big problem though is that, at its core, this is the same old thing you've been playing since Pokemon Red and Blue. At a certain point we need to ask, if this game came out now, with no nostalgia factor whatsoever and nobody had ever heard of pokemon before, would everyone find it as fun? It's a tough question honestly. But it's one we shouldn't need to be asking at this point.

i enjoyed this slightly more than i did sun/moon but that was probably just because it was still a shadow of a better game

By far the weakest pokemon games to date

ORAS fails at almost everything as a remake and a standalone game. It adds nothing of worth to the game to make the reduction of content acceptable. Pokemon emerald has 2 amazing features in the battle frontier and the safari zone. ORAS fails to recreate the safari zone in anyway even comparable to emerald and removes the battle frontier entirely. Standalone the gameplay is boring, slow, and redundant. The story is contrived and oppressive and the game has virtually no post-game content making a casual play through of they game as short as 8 hours. The art of the game and 6th gen as a whole is very choppy and unappealing. In short the features it adds are too simple or short to make up for the myriad of problems the game is riddled with.

It's been long enough and I think somebody has to say it.

Not only is 7.8 a really good score, but "Too much water" is a valid critiscism of the game's repetitive environments and overall structure. IGN did nothing wrong.

This is probably the pokemon game that I spent the longest playing. There was so much to do and it really brought the Hoenn region to life. The visuals are great and I LOVED the map on the bottom screen showing which pokemon were on each route, it made completing the dex so much easier.

I never played the original game, but no doubt that this remake with this new game design was undoubtedly a good surprise in which I loved playing. As always in these games, there is a lot to do, after completed the main game as do post game content, catching Legendary Pokemons or catching the various megastones that exist. In this version I was able to catch all most of the legendary Pokemon which I loved to do. Undoubtedly a lovely experience.

I haven't played any pokemon games since silver on the gbc back in the day and going into this one as an adult I really wasn't expecting much of it but I just finished it (became the champion) and holy sh*t ORAS is amazing. It really blew my mind how the same formula from years ago can still feel fresh. I'm playing the delta chapter right now and will catch every single legendary on my version and probably continue with sun/moon afterwards. Thank you Game Freak, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company for this nostalgic roller coaster of a game and great job.

I finished off getting all of the legendaries in Omega Ruby over the weekend. Wow are there a TON in this game. I now have duplicates of so many given previous games.

Now to get all of the TMs and Mega Stones. Still working toward 100% on this one. Anyone have a Yveltal?
