Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies
I started my replay of this game 3 years ago with the rest of my Ace Attorney revisit. I came back to it recently in the middle of act 3, so I might be misremembering some things.

I started my replay of this game 3 years ago with the rest of my Ace Attorney revisit. I came back to it recently in the middle of act 3, so I might be misremembering some things.
This was my least favorite AA game when I first played it, and while I did enjoy my replay, that status kind of stays the same.
- Notes section is a good to-do list and recap. Chat log makes it easy to read messages I missed and continue where I left off.
- Observing crimes scenes in 3D is neat and makes it easier to envision the actual scene of the crimes. Finding clues is also easier because there's an indicator to show you what you've already examined.
- Game is very hand-holdy. The game basically tells you what evidence you need to present right before it's needed.
- It's cool seeing beloved characters return.
- At the time, I loved Phoenix being the protag. These days, I think it was a mistake. Phoenix was at his best in Apollo Justice as a level-headed, experienced mentor. In Dual Destinies, all of the protags look dumb and get lucky, Phoenix included. He probably comes across as inexperienced and lucky as he did in his debut game. It's also a shame that characters and plots introduced in Apollo Justice don't get more shine.
- The story is really solid. Entertaining twist, high stakes, and personal involvement for all major characters. It did a good job continuing the "dark age of the law" premise from Apollo Justice.
- Not a fan of the tone. It leans way more into the silly factor than previous games. Also, the power of friendship is too strong in this game. Narratively, it's goofy, but mechanically it's fun when it's used to combine different elements, but not utilized as much as it could be.
- Pacing is pretty dreadful. Way more reaction shots for every narrative beat in the courtroom rather than saving them for impactful moments.
Overall, I think it is a good entry point for new players because it does feel like a reset for the franchise and it is an easy game.
