I really enjoyed my time playing Ratchet & Clank Going Commando. So much that I beat it again immediately in the Challenge mode. I'd say Challenge mode is more fun since you are overpowered and have "virtually" infinite ammo.
I played this on the PS3 as part of the trilogy, I don't yet know how's the original like in terms of graphics and all that.
To me it looked like a very polished game, it's smoother to play than the first one, movement and camera work a bit better.
I do find, however, that there are too many weapons. Many of which are a bit useless. I couldn't find a good use for the seeker gun or the turret glove. If you have the (black) sheepinator, mega rocket, multi-star and maybe bouncer or something else, you're quite good to beat the game.
In challenge mode make sure to get the RYNO 2, you'll have loads of fun, pure rampage.
It has improved gameplay over the first game, has more variety of weapons and improved graphics. What made me give it a 6? Well, quite simply, it's too straightforward and the bullet sponge enemies and boss and a letdown of a final boss.
The second Ratchet and Clank game legitimized Insomniac Games as a true AAA developer. Overflowing with charm and creativity, it featured colorful worlds to explore, bizarre guns to upgrade and a constantly evolving endorphin-rush of an adventure. A Lombax is not a real animal, sadly.
Love the weapon upgrades. Couldnt beat the final boss but was about done with the game by that point anyway. Maybe I'll go back later and grind up enough bolts to get the ultimate weapon.
I played the first one 5 years ago, so here we are. It’s mostly great. They tightened up the combat and movement significantly. The weapons are awesome. The story and humour are hit and miss, but maybe it improves. I just finished the first “open-world” planet: dreadful stuff. Just a big empty desert filled with the same 4 enemies, 88 collectables and no form of convenient traversal. It’s optional, but nets you so many bolts that can be exchanged for dope guns, that I did it begrudgingly. Between this and the space combat (which is also mostly optional) it feels like they were just trying stuff out. Hopefully the third one trims the fat and continues to hone what really is a very very fun game. I will find out in another 5 years.
Beaten the game multiple times. First PS2 game I ever owned.
