Expanded Versions of Slay the Princess
4.00 average rating based on 6 ratings
The fact that you are supposed to talk to the princess by selecting tons of pieces of dialogue, and trying to convince her or maybe failing in the attempt, it feels like you are talking to a real person instead of following a given script. There are so many dialogues, so the are a lot of possibilities within your gameplay, there are so many endings as well. Being a psychological horror game, the atmosphere is essential, and it´s cool the game leaves no room for disappointment. However, after a few hours, I found the story to be lacking, dunno, not my cup of tea tbh. Despite the scenario changing through your entire run, I felt that it gets pretty repetitive once you get the trick
Slay the Princess is an interesting take on the Visual Novel genre. It takes the typical conventions of the genre, notably romance and multiple endings, and turns them on its head.
The opening minutes of the game claims that this is a love story, but how can that be when the objective of the game is to "Slay the Princess"?
Unlike the dozens of hours it takes for a typical VN to complete a run, a typical run can take as little as 30 minutes. The brisk pace of the game allows for numerous endings and permutations. Slay the Princess conveniently prevents selection of previous completed options on subsequent runs ensuring that players don't waste their time.
Unfortunately, Slay The Princess is a bit too niche to recommend to many players. The art, VO and background music is expertly crafted, but the story is too abstract and difficult to follow without reading/watching a guide.
