NBA Playgrounds is not perfect but fun experience.

Playgrounds tries to revitalize the arcade basketball genre and brings many interesting and fresh gameplay ideas to the table, but fails to strike the balance between the conflicting gameplay mechanics. The UI is unintuitive, it lacks content, for one, and while it's easy to learn, it's perhaps a little too hard to master. It aims at nostalgia and almost succeeds. …

Other than that, however, there's no reason to leave this one at the roadside.

This game and its sequel are like NBA Jam without any of the charm, fun, or humor. The second game fixes some issues while introducing other ones and it’s like ??? This series didn’t really need a gacha mechanic. It baffles me that some things are HARDER to do in these games than they are in 2K. This is supposed to be streamlined and easy to get into, why make it harder than the game that’s more realistic? Of course I’m a sucker and bought both games. It just shows that when there is lack of competition, a subpar release will be considered good enough for some devs.
