Guilty Gear was a rush of style to play, but it certainly didn't seem the type you'd compete in. With instant kills that would win 2/3 matches and a limited roster, it felt pretty simple/disjointed with its mechanics, even though it was amazing. How does one improve upon that?

Guilty Gear X seeks to be a more complete game in that sense, making the Instant Kill into a more difficult (but still satisfying) gamble, as well as introducing mechanics to make it feel like a more unique and balanced fighting game. There are ways to block using your meter, ways to use the meter to cancel out of attacks, a specific attack to launch people in the air, ways to use the meter to attack out of a block - the game is much more tuned to utilize its Tension meter much more so than the original.

As for style, Guilty Gear X is so much more improved in that department. More crazy characters, more modes (including a legitimate story with both dark and cheery turns based on your performance!) as well as a mission mode to unlock artwork and extra characters.

Guilty Gear X is a natural extension of the Guilty Gear experiment, making it competition worthy and an even greater blast to play through.
