Since having finished the game I've been listening to Nier music a lot and I've found a good tribute album with a few great remixes of the songs from the game. Here they are:

I started with this one today. I have been playing for about 5 hours and I couldn't drop it! I didn't expect such a good game but I found a gem! I am glad I decided to play this one before automata :)

Finally pushed through to ending A, and immediately started route B, finishing up side quests and weapon collection along the way. Having already played Automata, I should have known the trick they were going to pull, and yet it still got me. Humanizing the seemingly inhuman enemies works here almost as well as it does in Automata, but I have to say, some of the boss backstories are a little on the nose. Especially P-33 and Kalil... it's so tragic it's absurd. But I mean... still fairly effective.

I will also say that leveling up some more, unlocking more powerful words, and getting Beastlord up to level 4 have made combat a breeze. I really appreciate this, because I'm not very fond of the combat anyway.

I'm currently coming up on ending C and hoping for more of that sweet sweet lore.

Well, I think I'm about 20-30 hours into this game and I'm a little conflicted so far. I don't think I would have played it at all if I hadn't played (and loved) Nier: Automata first. Now I see that its predecessor deals in a lot of the same weirdness and similar themes to that game, and I'm really enjoying that aspect of it. But I'm also really starting to feel the tedium of the sidequests (which I know are optional) and the combat (which is unavoidable). Moving and attacking feels pretty awkward to me, probably because I'm used to Platinum's fine-tuned action combat in Automata. I'm also not really engaging much with the spell system aside from using Dark Blast to finish off weak enemies and Dark Lance occasionally to get a big hit on bosses. Dark Whirlwind has also proven useful in some of the rooms that lock you in and flood with enemies. But for the most part, I find them frustrating to aim, and I'm not even really sure what the purpose of some of them (like, say, Dark Wall) are. But anyway, I'm really looking forward to the rest of this game. I'm in the latter half of route A, and I know there are a few more, shorter routes, like there were in Automata. I'm partially writing this update to convince myself to pick it up again, as I think it's been a week since I've played it.

I had to drive to a different city to locate a gamestop with a copy, when I was there the clerk was very insistently trying to talk me out of the game for reasons which I'm still unsure about. he suggested that I get a zelda game instead (I think twilight princess) and when I told him that I don't like zelda games he looked at me like my face started spontaneously melting off.

my other favorite thing was how delayed I was in actually beating it. I got to the first half of route A and stopped because the events were getting too emotional for me. I didn't pick it up until years later where I finally finished route A and then proceeded to see all the endings. great game.

Good if insane story, some good if insane characters. Terrible sidequests, truly the worst I have ever seen. Went on too long. Neat boss battles.
