Lots of Great Ideas, Hardly Fleshed Out, But With Great Look And Sound

Preliminary: Hmmm I didn't much care for the original for arcade, but the foreground and the overall Look/setting are super nice and great colors and textures and the music is giving Tomba vibes hmmm. The platforming is very generic so far, but it is the beginning. Worth delving in and pulling out the manual. enter image description here

I also like the titles of the areas, as well as the title dialog box that pop up, and I stumbled upon the first key on my own :-p Interesting. Enojying it so far even if the combat and platforming are quite generic so far. And I wish there were a run button/faster movement.

Day 1

The projectile of my weapon definitely made that boss a lot easier. And yesss Tiki Village. Nice this is very interesting. Amlost like an rpg/adventrue where you have shops and can tele to past places. I hope I can still just approach it as a fun fast-paced platformer, but still a neat touch.

Riding the Pterodactyl gave Adventure Island vibes. It was hard to put this one down tonight. Good vibes.

Day 2

Unfortunately the Day 2 vibes aren't as stellar. Still into it and enjoying it and the colors continue to be great as well as teh concept. But I dunno. The enemies just keep being repeated, especially the annoying presumably Mac/enemy cavemen, and the level designs (albeit cool-looking) feel more and more bland, with lots of pop out enemies and the same structures to parts. It was a neat idea to require you to drink the water to spit on the fire on the platform tho, that was a nice twist to the repetitive level design.

It also seems like slight issues with the controls and the usual big sprites-mean-iffy-collision-masks-sometimes are coming out more and more.

The Look and Sound of Snowy Rockies (I've apparently been diong the levels out of order, in the sense of the order of the Stones from left to right, but you can do them in any order it seems) is bringing back the love a bit, but still lots of pop out enemy placement. And as much as I like how this contributes to the simple fun platforming aspect, the way the Key is usually just right next to where the door is, is a bit lackluster.

Wow I'm already on the last level. And goodness... if you're gonna have such a short game, I'm all for it, but then don't do a boss rush. I felt like I just did these bosses lol

Not the greatest ending overall, with an emphasis on finding a wife (darn I was hoping they'd be roommates :-p ) which was a completely unecessary part of the game tho I did Remodel my home since I had plenty of money (it's almost like they had all these ideas for adventure and simulation elements, but then didn't really get to hash them out) , but at least they got the memo to have a sunrise/sunset ending :-p and some good tunes enter image description here enter image description here enter image description here

Look: 8.5/10 Beautiful, great colors, epitome of later SNES goodness

Sound: 8/10

Play: 7.5/10 Mostly solid, but got dry after a while and its faults came out more and more. Plus some elements, which I was excited about at the beginning, felt unfinished.

Feel: 8/10 Some Tomba vibes, great Look and Sound, big ideas even if not fully hashed out.

Attachment: 7.5/10 Hm. If it didn't get dry in the latter half, this would be a definite 8 and thus a 4 star. I kinda wanna do that since the Sound and Look and Feel are nice... but I guess I'm mister stern guy now about my 3 and 4 stars, and taking back 3 stars being special and not a bad rating. If only it kept its initial gleam.. Maybe if I replay it some day this will be adjusted.

Overall: 7.9/10

Completion: Main Story

Playtime: ~1h 7m
