I was honestly not expecting to cry because of this game. I went thinking it would be a “Journey” of determination or even faith for the character, i was not at all expecting the actual real journey it represents.

When i understood that it was a life and death experience, i started crying, specially at that moment you become a “light” elevating to the last “tunnel” in the mountain, with that beautiful light “at the end of the tunnel” waiting.

Beautiful.

This title is an extraordinary and deeply moving experience, renowned for crafting games that evoke emotion over traditional gameplay mechanics. You control a mysterious robed traveler in a vast, sun-swept desert, on a pilgrimage toward a distant, glowing mountain. The game’s narrative is entirely wordless, there’s no dialogue, no text, just the environments, the music, and subtle interactions to tell the story. At first I didn't really knew how to interpret this game since everybody was telling me this is a very personal game, and to sum it up, in my opinion, this game is one that you feel it instead of understanding it.

What sets this one apart is its ability to create emotional resonance through simplicity. The sweeping landscapes, from shifting dunes to ancient ruins, are visually stunning, and every area feels carefully crafted to convey a sense of awe and wonder. The musical score, dynamically changing with your actions, heightens every moment, making the world feel alive and responsive. It has some occasional lightweight puzzles here and there just to make things interesting, not to mention some unique and exotic platforming sections.

A, by far, the most unique aspect of the game is its multiplayer component. You may encounter other people on the same path, but communication is limited to musical chimes. This fosters a rare, wordless form of connection that can feel surprisingly profound, emphasizing cooperation and companionship without ever breaking immersion.

Although the game is short, typically taking only two to three hours to complete, the emotional impact is immense. Themes of struggle, hope, and transcendence are woven seamlessly into gameplay and environment, leaving a lasting impression long after the final scene. Journey is less a traditional game and more an interactive piece of art, proving that video games can be a powerful medium for emotional storytelling. If you are into these kinds of unique, exotic and alternative approaches, this one is definitely one of the best you can find, especially if you also think that videogame are art.

A game that I’ve heard of for a long time, only good mentions. It’s a very short game, around 2 hours. It tells a story without any words. The world and visuals together with a beautiful soundtrack tells the story itself. The story is deeper than I could understand. I had to watch videos afterwards to really understand the depth of it.

You play as a robed traveler in the desert. your goal is to reach the mountain in the distance. No instructions or anything. Another traveler appeared early and I thought that was a computer controlled traveler. I started to follow that him/her and we progressed through the desert. You can only communicate through a simple sound, nothing more. I found out later efter the game, that travelers you encounter in game is other people online playing the game! I had no clue. So the first traveler I met helped and guided me through in the beginning.

The gameplay is simple but this game is not about gameplay. It’s about the journey towards the goal.

I had a good 2-3 hour experience playing this. I’m gonna play through it once more with the knowledge I got afterwards.

Sand

I liked this well enough. It had some cool elements and I really liked how the ending tied everything together.

I’m a bit overdue on finally playing Journey but I think it lived up to the hype. The game is gorgeous to look at with beautiful environments and a fantastic art style. Sliding down shimmering hills of sand as wind rushes around you is jaw-dropping to look at. Before playing the game I knew two things which were “it’s really pretty” and “it handles multiplayer in a really unique and poignant way”. I kept waiting for a multiplayer moment to happen, and at the end of the game realized I had missed it entirely as the other people I played with zipped past me before I noticed them and were never seen again. I enjoyed the story and setting and as an artistic piece Journey is amazing. As a game it’s a bit shallow and cumbersome to play.

Brought me to tears even though I still don't really know what was going on. Playing this with a stranger online, while not normally my thing, was surprisingly meaningful.

A lonely boring journey.

Played this game offline. It was regretful and boring. No challenge, heavily ambiguous and abstract plot. Not my kind of game. Note that I like other "relaxed" or "artistic" games.

Maybe online would've been better..

Finally redeemed a gift card from Christmas and picked up the full game. Incredible, relaxing experience. Beautiful graphics and lots of fun without killing enemies. The indies are doing it right!

First playthrough. I didn't even realize for some time that the companion was another player (I haven't played much on PSN), but it was quite fun either way. Got only a few trophies too, hope to replay if I have the time.

I was finally able to give this a go during my PlayStation Now free trial. It was fantastic. The first 30 minutes was at 4 in the morning, so I didn't have any companions. My second play was at a more reasonable 9 PM and I finished the rest of the game during that second sitting. I was surprised when my first companion showed up. He or She was very helpful. I love that you can't directly communicate with each other. During my play-though I had 4 different companions. It is such an interesting feature and I would like to see it added to more games. The game is truly beautiful and moving. I'm glad I finally got to give it a go.

Journey

An amazing experience. Beautiful music; beautiful game. Will play multiple times. In fact can't wait to play again. Takes 1.5 - 2 hours and great for 1 sitting.

A soothing and emotional journey

Visuals in Journey are fantastic and I like that it feels like an experience more than a game. The "co-op" aspect was also a nice surprise, probably the most unintrusive multiplayer I've experienced. Since you're unable to chat with each other you instead focus on the task at hand. Overall, this was short but oh so sweet!

Finished this and really liked it. This is what modern games should be. Seems like it will be fun to replay too.
