Civilization VI is a 4X turn-based strategy game in which players guide a civilization from its founding as a small settlement through multiple eras of development. Players explore a procedurally generated map, found cities, research technologies, develop culture, engage in diplomacy, and compete against AI or human opponents to achieve victory through military dominance, scientific advancement, cultural influence, religious conversion, or diplomatic consensus. A key design change from its predecessor is the "unstacking" of cities, requiring players to place districts on surrounding tiles rather than stacking all improvements in the city center, making terrain and geography central to strategic planning. The game received two major expansions, Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm, which introduced mechanics like city loyalty, golden/dark ages, climate change, and natural disasters. It was succeeded by Civilization VII in 2025. Read less

Anxiously I watched my production count down, as I was 10 turns from victory, 9, 8, ect.until with only 4 turns remaining, Russia beat me thru Cultural Victory!

I have to say this was a blast to play, but without any war at all, large chunks of the game felt redunant or unnecessary. Thought it was a fun challenge, and I made tons thru trade, its not a route I would recommend going.

An enjoyable and tight game, I already started a second play through!

I had an amazing moment when I thought I was cruising towards an easy Culture victory in Gathering Storm with the Maori, but somehow the Cree held out against my culture for about 20 turns. I was so close to completing the game, but held back and then my global warming caught up with me, I lost several coastal tiles and was punished diplomatically for my high pollution. Wars were declared, Giant Death Robots descended on my cities and I ended up losing that game, and I loved every second of it.

Finally got to play the new Civ thanks to my buddy and his extra copy from Humble. Really enjoying it so far, but I haven't even passed turn 100 yet.

Pre-ordered. Played for 24 hours but I'll definitely play a lot more.

At the time of writing this, the game is broken: very easy to exploit, the AI is terrible, barbarians are insane. But, as far as vanilla Civs go, it's actually good.

Recommended to any 4X fan.

EDIT: as of november 17, a new patch has been released and it fixes most of the critical issues with the game.
