Fun, Short, Pleasantly Well-balanced

Preliminary: Hmm I was skeptical at first cuz I don't really need another 3D fighting game but I like the replays and I like Taki and finally a fighting game with a nice lead-in at the start (almost too nice) rather than brutality within the first couple fights. I'm playing this longer than expected and even tho the music isn't great, I'm into it. The way the different ranges of characters was balanced was well-done, and even the slow get-up process was well-balanced with the priority in getting an attack when you do.

This is a very manageable fighting game! Well, Stage 8, the difficulty definitely increased.

Oh dang! I'm on Soul Edge! enter image description here

Nice and I only had to use savestates for the last 2 enemies (bosses) and only at the very start of their battles, not even between roudns, because it was well-balanced enough.

Wild some people do 3 minutes. enter image description here enter image description here

Look: 8/10 Love this era, and some of the characters were especially neat.

Sound: 7.5/10 It's all borderline Final Fantasy music, even this credits song. The voice got a bit repetitive but was still neat.

Play: 8.5/10 Gotta give credit for a rare fighting game I play start to finish

Feel: 8/10

Attachment: 8/10 Would be fun to play others. I wish there were something more spectacular with the Sound or Look to match the surprisingly addictive Play, but yea.

Overall: 8/10

It's surprisingly good for its time. I like the mechanic of disarming your opponent. enter image description here

So I tried this game since I'm planning on playing all the soul calibur games and I found out that this is essentially the prequel to that. I did multiple vs. battles with my boyfriend which were surprisingly fun. The characters were stiff and they jump way too high, but it's clear how much influence this game has had on modern fighting games. Unfortunately we couldn't really get better at it; we looked at the combo list but they were all for the arcade buttons, it seems like they either forgot or didn't bother to change it to the PS1 buttons for the port. We were really excited for the single player mode (though it's name is laughable in current internet slang - edge master mode made us laugh more than it should have), but honestly? It felt way too hard and unfair. Most battles had a certain gimmick to it, like defeat your opponent within 30 seconds or beat them with only kicks. Again, this may not be such a problem for people who know what they're doing and that have the combo list memorized, but for us it was just too difficult. Aside from all that, the characters looked pretty cool, all had their own voicelines and for a game from the mid 90s I was for sure impressed! Definitely a 7/10 and worth it to play once.

I loved this game as a kid. Here in the states it is called soul blade instead of soul edge. I don’t have the copy from my childhood but I was lucky to find a copy that was still sealed and trademark/copyright is 95/96. If u like fighting games from the 90’s then u will like this game. It stated …
