Stray is a cute, clever and unique puzzle-platformer game with cool visuals and a somewhat interesting world. Even though it's not my thing i would normally give it 3 stars, but there is no manual saving so 2 stars it is. Also the controls are a bit iffy with interaction locations changing at the last moment.
Stray brings together cats and cyberpunk in a fun and engaging way.
Exploring the neon-lit alleys of a decaying city satisfied my wanderlust for the cyberpunk genre. The visuals are enticing and the atmosphere is immersive. The story of friendship between your main character, a cat, and B-12, your robot companion, is heartwarming and beautifully portrayed, adding substance to your exploration of this mechanical world.
The game mechanics are relatively basic, with simple puzzles and obstacles such as finding creative paths through the environment and interacting with the robot inhabitants, making Stray feel more like a narrative-driven experience.
The real entertainment lies in the story exploration and the bond between the characters. Despite the repetitious aspects of some puzzles, which made the game easier as I progressed, I maintained my interest throughout the 11-hour journey. I encountered no technical issues in the PS4 version, which is always a plus.
Stray is perfect for those who love cats, cyberpunk aesthetics, and/or puzzle-solving games. It's worth a play for anyone looking to enjoy a fun take on a familiar story.
Game #64/225
I had a surprisingly great time in Stray, whose premise of playing as a cat initially appealed to me as a cat lover, but whose walking simulator-heavy gameplay gave me some paws (lolz). I am also not generally big on cyberpunk or EDM, both of which feature prominently in the game's aesthetics. Nonetheless, even with the game's mind-numbingly easy puzzles, I found Stray such a fun time to run around in for about 5 hours. The gameplay loop is simple -- there's a decent amount of exploring in some semi-open areas -- and you advance the well-conceived plot by speaking to the right person, getting some information, completing a fetch quest or a puzzle, and performing some very easy jumps. There are also some collectibles and mini, informal side quests that add to the game's atmosphere and charm. I really enjoyed collecting some of the music pieces and multi-tasking with those in the game's main town while also thinking about how to advance the plot. Each of the game's small open-world areas feel unique and well-designed with many "cat-like" activities, like scratching posts or places to snuggle up, that add to the sense of coziness and even …

It's an impossible-to-fail sort of game (although you will die a bit), but the joy is really in the feeling of "catness" you get from controlling the nameless feline and watching its realistic animations -- from jumping, to cozying up to a robot, to running about. The game does have some well-executed underlying themes to which the cyberpunk world lends itself well, such as of the infinite vs. the finite in the meager lifespan of the cat you control and the robots all around you or how animals are capable of amazing things (sounds boring, but the player does get this sense of realism from that the cat does in the game and how it translates into progress; it doesn't ever feel overly unrealistic, which the designers could easily have made happen). It's quite a joy to walk around the world of Stray, meeting robots who build its dark, underground world, and navigating landscapes with the agility of a cat. I acknowledge many people would not classify this game as a walking simulator, but its ease sort of lends itself to that genre despite its more sophisticated mechanics. And it is one of the better ones I've played.
I started this game thinking, this is going to be fun, a lot of meows, a lot of biscuits, and just that, totally came without big expectations to be honest. It was first introduced to me by a friend, telling me "Play it, you are a cat and you go by a post apocalyptic city and jump on stuff etc", ok perfect.
It was, it was purrrfect. I loved it so much, I even cried at the end, I screamed in certain parts, while running from those weird little zurks. It was fantastic.
Well. Y'all should really play it. IT's a great game with a really nice story and beautiful cinematic art.
Wonderful and beautiful little game that I hope unrolls into something even grander in the future. You could feel the passion put into this game throughout it. Through the visuals, the incredible story, the worldbuilding, the amount of effort put into each of the main characters you interact with. Everything felt so real. And the setting was done so well. A post apocalyptic, futuristic setting, where everything is only slightly explained, with so many hints to different bigger questions. Just so cool. Also really makes you feel like a cat.
It was a little rough around the edges though and I feel like parts of the gameplay could have been done better. I also wish the last level felt a little more like the others in terms of quality and the gameplay, but it's fine. I'm hoping this setting or something around it is used for future games.
Stray is an okay game, if very basic. It's biggest issue is probably that it doesn't live up to the hype. I remember this being one of the first games showcased for PS5 and I was seeing it everywhere leading up to and following its release. I'm not sure "hype" is the best word for it as there weren't a ton of details given or even that much buzz from a lot of gamers, but there were ads everywhere and it was being couched as a significant upcoming release you don't want to miss. The game does look pretty good graphically and plays smoothly, but the game is primarily a platformer, most of which is practically on autopilot and/or super easy. While it was an alright game, there was just very little that seemed worthy of praise above any other average title. In fact, expectation being what it is, I probably would've enjoyed the game more if I'd heard less about it.
The aesthetic and atmosphere of the game are probably its best selling points and there the game does shine in these regards to some extent. The futuristic robot city is full of evocative neon lights and stylized robot …

The aesthetic and atmosphere of the game are probably its best selling points and there the game does shine in these regards to some extent. The futuristic robot city is full of evocative neon lights and stylized robot characters. There are a variety of interesting-looking environments and none of them overstay their welcome or feel overly uniform. The game's main unique feature is that you're just a cat and you have to play as a cat would. While rather intelligent, Stray can't talk (other than to meow, a lot) or walk around on hind legs. Stray is a cat. The platforming and adventure is thus mostly confined to things a cat would be able to do. The only real exception being communicating with your robot friend B-12 who facilitates a lot of the translation to explain the game to the player and until you meet B-12, the game is fairly non-verbal. The game does a lot to immerse you into that role as a cat, aside from when a bit more textual narrative feels warranted and B-12 or an NPC fills you in through B-12's translation.
The story of the game is fairly basic, but the connection between Stray and B-12 is the main force of the narrative. Not only does B-12 act as your intermediary with the various NPCs, but the two of you have to work together to make it through numerous dangers. There's a surprisingly touching relationship between the two that develops over the course of the game.
The biggest issue is that there's just not much to the game. The platforming is very basic and very easy. Most of the dicier gameplay sequences are simple chase scenes and a few stealth or puzzle sequences that are also rather straight-forward. Not only are these not very challenging, they feel very standard and typical. Aside from the fact that you're playing as a cat, most all of the game is the same sequences you've likely seen in several other games. The full story is quite short and while the environments and characters change, there isn't much variation other than eventually the action sequences have more of a threat than they do in the earlier sections. There are some side quests and collectibles but these ultimately I didn't find to add too much to the game.
None of this is really bad exactly, I give the game 3 stars because it's an okay game. But there's really nothing about it that makes me want to recommend it. I guess maybe it'd be appealing if you just really really like cats? My niece does really like the game and enjoyed watching me play it for instance. But I saw this game nominated for 2022 Game of the Year and, meaning no offense to the devs, I just don't see it at all.
The meaning "Open world" and "platform" changed while playing stray. Im a dog person but i sure loved to BE a cat.
Literally every aspect of the game looks like a painting. Combining a brilliant simple story with bits of action full of adrenaline...It was the first and ONLY time i got all the trophies. I couldnt stop playing it.
Please visit the pyramids in egypt and play stray while on this planet earth.
I am not a cat person. But I AM a robot person and a "pretty neon lights reflected in a puddle" person and BOY did it deliver on both fronts. Some of the most gorgeous game environments I've ever seen, lots of cute moments, and a really solid Sci-Fi world & story. Excited to go back and dig around a little more and equally excited to see what this studio has planned next.
Not much in terms of gameplay but its got plenty of purr-sonality
My playthrough highlights:

Read LessThe most wholesome game i've played. I've bought the game just to hear my wife making cute aww and cat sounds as i press triangle and circle. Beautiful game.
Took me 8 hrs 22 min to finish (66% completion)
This game was so beautifully designed. Mainly puzzles and task completion based. The storyline is heartbreaking and wonderful. The world is so incredibly real and the challenge level was perfect. As the title mentioned, I was crying by the end but in a good way!
One day I said to a friend: "imagine being a cat and do parkour all over the place" and ~8 years later, here we are.
I really enjoyed playing this, is very comfy and relax, and I was finishing the game and still thinking "omg they REALLY did a game where you are a CAT?!"
Got about 1.5 hours in, let out a deep sigh, and stopped playing. Found this to be very boring, I guess as someone who's not particularly a cat person the novelty of being one wore off very quickly and I was just walking around the environment not really caring. I see the appeal it holds for others but the main character being a cat is doing so much of the heavy lifting that it just didn't translate for me.
I thoroughly enjoy the cat. It felt like a big budget point and click adventure game which is not a bad thing at all. I love the graphics and the music is a BANGER for real. It's music you don't normally hear in video games. I will honestly bump it in my free time and/or car. The story is nicely done. The gameplay had a lot of different elements to it. A combat portion, a puzzle portion, and sneaking portion. My favorite is the sneaking portion with combat being weakest. (it really didn't need it). My only negative is that... it's missing something... I don't know what it is. It's just is.. Maybe it's the fact it's really short and it just needed an hour or 2 to really get things going.
I strongly recommend the game. I had a great time!
This game isn't that good. It takes place in a non-descript foreign land with a made-up language, it's a bit dark and depressing with no humans existing anymore, and the music sometimes clashes with the environment and task you are supposed to do. In a very early part of the game where it should be a sense of wonder and exploration instead plays a downer, sort-of creepy track that took me out of the game enough that I turned the music volume to '0'.
The game feels like it could have and should have been so much more, but comes off as indie crap from some foreign company that doesn't quite have making a game down pat.
I enjoyed playing with my cat friends the best, I wanted to get back to that, the robots not so much
A great idea for a future game, but I found this one annoying; you can get stuck in a large area with only one way out, and that way out isn’t always obvious, forcing you to walk every square inch of the area waiting to trigger an area where you might jump to (a roof, ledge or window).
So I was looking at my Playing shelf and got some inspiration for a dumb image. Hope you all enjoy.

I love this, i have enjoyed this guys video essays.
He opens with Stray as the first example, and i know i have seen people hating about stray what i love. Although you are playing the cat, the game and the world is not about you.
(It covers the games
It is a beautiful game. Really. You are cat. What else you want more.
Really enjoying this one so far. The moodiness and sense of isolation is impeccable.
Gameplay is a little predictable, but it's very fun to be a cat, and having the ability to do cat things is a treat.
Also, the soundtrack is amazing.
I finished the main story (they did it in 6 hours 23 minutes depending on the game) (I played it 1 hour a day), I still need to find the memories and musical scores. In general, there are parts that bored me, but as the story progressed, the story became interesting, There was a part that cost me more than others (I will have died more than 10 times)
Finally finished: Game Progress 100% Played for 8 Hours.
Stray:14/25 trophies (maybe I will go back and try to find all memories and badges)
Rated: E Adventure/Platformer
