Heat Signature (2017)

So, that title sums it up. I really enjoyed the game play loop.

• Each mission is a little challenge to figure out and execute.
• Play control feels good.
• Forgiving of failure sometimes, but warns you when it won't be.
• Consistent graphics with what was expected.

However, there's an attempt at a plot...which I can easily brush off....and overall, it just doesn't seem like the play loop will keep me going long enough to see the end.

What I played was enjoyable....but for five hours, not twenty-five.

I traded for it, so I don't feel cheated, but I'll never see that "end" of the story.

Heat Signature has many great ideas but the game is not my cup of tea. The story AFAIK consists of randomly generated missions where successfully completing them increases the liberation meter of that system. There are about two dozen systems to liberate. This is the kind of game you would play while listening to a podcast.

There are some really cool space pirate/rebel vibes where you are infiltrating and eventually commandeering ships. There are several exciting moments like blowing up part of the ship to ferry away foes into space. Very pause heavy, in fact the game encourages you to pause often. Feels more like playing a turned based game than an action game. I didn't play more than an hour of this but think the game is well worth it if you like narrative light games with a lot of replay value.
