agersant's review of Lil Gator Game
  • Exploration collecthaton with no fail state
  • Cozy and heartwarming vibe
  • Satisfying movement
  • Dialog doesn't always land
  • A little repetitive at times

In the same genre, would recommend A Short Hike over this game.

Ha! Hyah! Haiiii! And so on and so forth
This review is for the Nintendo Switch version

What a lovely little game. The movement is fun, the dialogue is great, the Zelda nods are awesome- and it does a really good job at making you as the player want to complete the mission. In a world full of cardboard monsters that don't attack you I found myself still having an incredibly fun time mowing them down (and making my own sound effects on occasion). When tasked with pretending to take out aliens I equipped my space helmet and blaster without a second thought, even though the game in no way required me to do so. And it was a perfect length. Bummer this got so buried in the end of 2022 that I almost missed it but I'm glad I found it eventually.

A heartfelt tiny breath of the wild!
This review is for the Nintendo Switch version

This game is one of the sweetest most fun games my partner and I have played in a long time. It's like playing a tiny breath of the wild. It gently pokes fun at stamina bars, fall damage, and generally approaches games with humor and love. An absolute joy to play mechanically, it's beautiful, and the dialogue is very well written. I did get a little turned around in some areas, but never for too long. Very accessible and highly recommended!

A bear (named simon) wearing workout equipment (headband, etc.) raises his arms and says to the player "hah! it requires much practice to achieve this level of mastery!"

Ever since I first completed A Short Hike, I've been searching for a game with similar vibes. This is the closest I've encountered so far. It's a lovely, surprisingly large place to spend time; exploration is rewarded with better traversal; there's lots to do and collect; and there's just a smidge of emotional storytelling to lend weight to the experience. What sets Lil Gator Game apart are its perspective, controls and visuals, which feel closer to Wind Waker than A Short Hike.

If you're a fan of wholesome little experiences (Toem and Alba: A Wildlife Adventure also come to mind), Lil Gator Game should probably be near the top of your wish list.

Legend of croco ?

isabelp_97's review of Lil Gator Game

This was a very well-made, wholesome, and enjoyable quest-based game. The art style matched the tone of the game so well and I loved the cartoony, colorful, and joyful vibe it gave off. The narrative was sweet and heartwarming which was such a delight. The gameplay mechanics were easy to get a grasp on and I loved how relaxing it was to run around, talk to NPCs, and work to get all your friends to collaborate in creating an epic game with you. It was the perfect, bite-sized length and everything worked in harmony to create a truly fun experience that I am glad to have had!

Captures a child's experience of summer

A Short Hike but with some Breath-of-the-Wild-style climbing to put it in reductive this game + this game = this game terms. It's a collectathon platformer, but as well as smashing cardboard monsters for craft supplies, you 'collect' kids as well, recruiting them to help you cajole your sister to play.

There's a real clarity of vision that make it worth experiencing. The art, animation, and level design all work in tandem to capture how it feels to be a child in the summer holidays, from how fast friendships form, the improvisational style of play, to the ungainly yet joyful movement.

The character writing is fun, though there's maybe a bit too much of it. Likewise, the the ending goes past sweet and ends up schmaltzy and blunt, but its heart is in the right place. A lovely lil game.

Super adorable with a heartwarming, if not slightly melancholic story. I really enjoyed the game but seeing as I’m really not much of a collectathon person I’m not really that keen on finding every last standee, so I won’t 100% this game. I enjoy that the game pokes fun at various tropes and is both relaxing and entertaining, but running around to find every last item doesn’t thrill me in any game, so I’ve put this one down given I’ve hit the credits.

Ok, cuteness of this game aside I have something serious to say:

Despite one of the quests given in Lil Gator Game, never, ever flush a bird from cover to get a photograph!

Much funnier than I expected. Some great meta commentary on video games, and games in general that makes me chuckle.

Didn't expect a game named Lil Gator Game to make me contemplate the meaning of life, friendship and relationships.
