The game offers a lot of choice in respect to how individual players wish to play. The main focus of the game is entering the tower and destroying its denizens, collecting treasure and monster eggs to hatch into familiars. Each monster has hidden spells, unique traits, and abilities. Koh can also improve the town, along with decorating his home.

I heard about this video during an interview (linked below) today, and I read the wiki article. It sounds really fascinating, I've never heard of it before. After I had so much fun with Symphony of the Night earlier this year, perhaps it's high time I dust of my old Playstation One (*cough emulator cough*) and give this a crack. I've been really interested in rogue-like games recently and playing them more than anything. Seems like many rogue-folk cite this as one of the best, and I hadn't even heard of it. Might have to give it a crack!

Azure Dreams introduced me to a lot of gaming concepts which I've come to love ever since. A combination dating sim / roguelike / Pokemon style monster raiser, Azure Dreams is an ambitious and flawed, but still successful, big ol' mess of a game. You play as Koh, an average little nobody who lives in a town where the only reasonable career is to raid the impossibly huge tower of death which looms over everything. Your father died in there, giving you ample non-greed reasons for looting the place. Between dungeon raids, you can invest in improving your crummy little town, woo the local ladies, and generally antagonize the prissy rich boy who rules the town with a velvet fist. Overlook the derpy writing, painful polygons, and not-quite-stellar character design and you'll find a neat little relic from yesteryear.

Endless(?) tower climbing, monster breeding, house and town remodeling, not to mention a kind of dating sim thrown in there too. Man, I loved the hell out of this game...
