Okay as a tactical game; better if you appreciate the art

This is a fine, three-star tactical fighting game. It's biggest weakness, in my mind, is that I never fully understood all of the features in play or there were features were often pointless. The 2D perspective is somewhat limiting in a genre where you usually get 3D isometric. Still, the rules are the rules for everyone so it works. There's a decent variety of choice in what soldiers you can select and the game does a better job of associating choices with costs.

I gave it an extra star because of the setting; a medieval illuminated manuscript where the armies consist of animal-like doodles often found as marginalia in those manuscripts. The setup was nice and was true to the source with flatulent humor. Worth playing more if you appreciate the homage to history than as a tactical fighting game.

The game has bugs, too many bugs. When you heal someone, movements and everything. Maybe wait for a couple of years.

I'm playing a medieval historical trifecta right now with Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Pentiment, and this. This one is obviously the least historical of the trio as it turns a medieval manuscript into a tactical, turn-based fighting platform. Still, the lover of medieval history in me appreciates each of these games in their own way.

A striking medieval manuscript aesthetic and playful humor that meshes with that aesthetic well (fart attacks) are decent enough incentive to play this game for a few hours; it's just that beyond that point you'll start to feel the lack of variation within it's runs and a general sense of boredom.

This 'thumbs down' is really more of a 'not yet', I think the game is missing an X Factor and I hope they find it during the EA period.

For now, it's probably better off if you check in on it every now and again with Game Pass rather than making an outright purchase.
