Shovel Knight is a sweeping classic action adventure game with awesome gameplay, memorable characters, and an 8-bit retro aesthetic. It's a hot mashup of new and old! You play as the eponymous Shovel Knight, a small knight with a huge quest. Shovel Knight has come to this land with two goals: to defeat the evil Enchantress and quest for his lost beloved. He wields a Shovel Blade: a multipurpose weapon whose techniques have now been lost to the ages. Always honest and helpful, Shovel Knight is a shining example of the code of Shovelry: Slash Mercilessly and Dig Tirelessly! But, between Shovel Knight and his beloved stands a cadre of villainous knights. These terrible foes, known as The Order of No Quarter, have been dispatched to prevent Shovel Knight from reaching the Enchantress, and will pursue their mission at any cost. If you love games with perfect platforming, beautiful art, infectious music, crazy bosses, humor and levity, and real heart… Shovel Knight is for you! Read less

I am a little over halfway through the main story. This game kicks ass and I can't believe it took me so long to play it.

FINALLY got around to finishing Shovel Knight and now I can't stop playing it. Three times in the past couple days, very quickly became one of my favorite games ever.

Finally finished New Game + after starting it years ago. The boss rematches were utter torture.

Picked this up after a long time away and I had a lot of trouble with it. Getting through The Lich Yard was tough - segments with no lighting and blind jumps, plus those electrified frogs and unkillable ghosts made it slow going through the platforming sections.

Picked this up after a long time away and I had a lot of trouble with it. Getting through The Lich Yard was tough - segments with no lighting and blind jumps, plus those electrified frogs and unkillable ghosts made it slow going through the platforming sections.

Then I hit the boss fight. I found that some of the scythe patterns were learnable, but the tells were pretty difficult differentiate between for me at first. I'm also fighting the joycons - I accidentally activated my relic instead of hitting the boss more times than I want to remember.

But, and I'm guessing this is why so many people like hard games, when he finally fell I had a fist pump of pride and felt pretty good about not giving up. As someone who bounces off of hard games more often than not, it felt really good to stick with something that was starting to get frustrating.

Mostly the jumping was just too tricky for my abilities. I look forward to the third installment.

The trailer has dropped for the new Specter Knight expansion for one of the best games of the past couple years.

Oh my! Shovel Knight will receive more content, including campaigns for Spectre Knight and King Knight, and body swap and battle modes. This is super exciting. Given The Plague Knight campaign was my favourite part of the game, I am excited for what Yacht Club has in store for the new campaigns. This is amazing.

Really liked it, and though it was tough at certain points, it just took patience and a little trial and error. The boss battles were tough but not impossible, and the controls handled greatly, making it known that if there was a really hard jump, it's your fault that you didn't make it (not the game's).

Just finished Plague of Shadows and really enjoyed the second half of Shovel Knight. I cannot recommend Shovel Knight enough. Everything I loved about the first half was improved upon in the second. The two halts compliment each other quite well. Fantastic game.
