Shovel Knight is a sweeping classic action adventure game with awesome gameplay, memorable characters, and an 8-bit retro aesthetic. It's a hot mashup of new and old! You play as the eponymous Shovel Knight, a small knight with a huge quest. Shovel Knight has come to this land with two goals: to defeat the evil Enchantress and quest for his lost beloved. Holy crap this game is awesome! First impressions months ago was, meh kind of cool. After going through the town then reaching the keep with king knight I can see why this game is so highly rated. Lots of fun. Definitely a great game for a retro gaming fan who loves megaman and castlevania.

Finished Shovel Knight off yesterday. I found it a bit too frustrating to be truly enjoyable. I'm also a bit of a completionist when it comes to achievements. But the achievements were absolutely ridiculous so I decided to just giving up doing them. Oh well, at least I can say I finished it.

Homenaje a lo retro sin reverenciar a lo desfasado; dificultad sin diseño injusto; musica pegadiza sin ser pegajosa; gráficos sencillos pero sin renunciar al carisma...

Shovel Knight was an amazing game on its own; the free Plague of Shadows DLC somehow manages to make it even more incredible. Plague Knight controls so uniquely that understanding his jump mechanics is a major part of appreciating his quest. I love trying to come to terms with unorthodox gameplay, and figuring Plague's myriad of options for movement is a lot of fun. It's a harder quest, but not unjustly so. The levels have all been reconfigured to add in new segments for Plague Knight to explore, and revisiting them all was already a pleasure -- new areas better still! Boss fights require a different set of skills to conquer, which was a lot of fun tinkering with Plague's diverse bomb set to uncover. The characterization is excellent as well, with Yacht Club really making Plague Knight and his crew very likable despite their "villainy". In short, if you have Shovel Knight, you need this. If you don't have Shovel Knight, you should; it's now two complete game experiences in one!
