I'm not done with Horizon Forbidden West! I'm still playing it and overthinking it!

Did you noticed that Aloy was a real asshole at the start of the game. She's all high and mighty because she "knows the truth about the world" and the others don't. She's like those internet atheists that believe themselves the abolute owners of the truth.

I'm also an atheist, but fuck those guys.

Thankfully, Aloy has a little of character development and we can use that to talk (in spanish, as usual) about her atheism and the religions of her world.

I think I still have in me one or two pieces more about this game.

I finally unlocked the Kratos face paint, so I wrote a guide explaining how to find all the God of War easter eggs.

You can check it here.

It's in spanish, but I included several maps and captures, so you don't need to understand it. (You can also look for a guide in your own language, but what's the fun …

I really liked the look of the totems. Specially the Kratos' one.

Horizon Forbidden West – Reseña: Machine Monster Hunter

Why? Because it strikes an excellent balance of critical reflection and honest personal experience. Yes, @Sir_Laguna reflects on the problems of the game, but he also conveys a sense of appreciation that transcends or sidesteps some of those problems. This is not a both sides argument, it's a critical analysis that says we can love something and critique it, because doing the latter is part of media appreciation, not antithetical to it.

Add this one to the short list of reviews of Horizon Forbidden West that I really enjoyed and one that nails a perspective on the complexity of the balancing act that I think Guerrilla didn't quite manage perfectly in their sequel. Do I agree with every point? No. But that's the beauty of good critical writing. You don't need to agree with the reviewer to appreciate their thoughtful response.

I'm playing the game after the ending and it works a lot better without the dissapointing villains. Now it's just a game about helping the people in the world, exploring to discover new vistas to take photos and making a wishlist of machine parts for your perfect build a la Monster Hunter.

This rules.

Ahhhhh, the puzzle design in this game is atrocious. If anyone has done Alva’s companion quest, and you’ve entered the second door code, you know what I mean.

Ahhhhh, the puzzle design in this game is atrocious. If anyone has done Alva’s companion quest, and you’ve entered the second door code, you know what I mean.

Also that mission illustrates that even Guerrilla knows their climbing is the worst. It’s the only place in the game that I recall campfires placed directly before and after a specific building climbing sequence. No other area of the game has campfires bookending sequences inside a structure. I feel like Guerrilla realized their climbing mechanics fell apart in that level, realized it was too late to retool the climbing mechanics, and dropped two campfires because they knew people were going to fail.

Honestly I really thought the machines would save this game from a rating below three stars, but at this point I don’t think they can. I like that part of the game, I like some side quests, but I really think the rest of the game is a giant mess.

My god, this game has so little faith in the player that Alva just explained that October is the tenth month of the year to assist me with a puzzle which required me to complete the clearly very difficult task of inputting a numerical value comprised of a month and year. Great, now I’m having to quit and restart the game just to turn in bugged quest lines.

Ugh, P.S.A. don’t kill a Snapmaw when it’s partially submerged underground. There’s a chance it will glitch out and you won’t be able to loot it. I just killed an Apex Snapmaw and finished it off as it was climbing out from underground. It completely disappeared and I lost my sweet salvage. This is especially annoying on the hardest difficulty.
