Ok folks, as requested, the Year in Review and Top Games of 2025 posts are live in the forums:
For those unfmaliar, they are our official year end lists that I post each year, and everyone is welcome to contribute their own. I didn't start the tradition (pretty sure @alexgarbus did, but I've keep it going year in and year out.
A Year in Review - 2025: This is a list of all the games played throughout the year.
Top Games of 2025: This is our GOTY lists or lists of favourite games playing this year.
I've pinned the topics until 1 January 2026 so that they are easy to find. Feel free, and even encouraged, to add your lists to the threads.
This is a trip. I don't think I've interacted with something contemporary that has genuinely made me feel like a teenager again with its mix of the early 90s web and television at the same time. There are games that evoke an early internet feeling, like Hypnospace Outlaw, but this pulls me back to the BBS era, when we were dealing into different bulletin board services instead of surfing the more unified World Wide Web. Interactign with monochromatic bulletin board posts really activates some long unused nostalgia centres in my brain. On top of that Blippo+ layers a combination of 90's video media art and a fever dream of late night infomercial TV over its messaging board structure. There is a ton here that feels indebted to a legacy of artists, especially Queer artists, that were using video and camp to engage with what was perceived of as taboo and in the fringe. I don't know what the aims of Blippo+ are quite yet, but I definitely interested in sticking with it to find out. But I will say that it's almost unsettling to feel this thoroughly transported back to my teens.
