Preliminary: Wow the cozy Look and excellent voices really are so impressive for 92, separate from the nostalgia I have for Goes to the Moon and on for Humongous Entertainment games. This is just so well-made and you can tell this is from the Monkey Island team. And awww so that's how his connection with Pep starts. (his puppy). I must've somehow got access to this game as a kid because parts keep being familiar like repainting your car, but I know we didn't own it. We owned most the games tho.
Unfortunately the lawn mowing aspect is getting a bit dry, but it's still very impressive for its time and the start to a series and company/team that I love so much. No wonder I love point and click and text adventurew games so much--being raised on these!
Day 2
Okay so luckily it turns out you really only have to mow part of the lawn, and even then you only have to do it once. I got sucked into thinking I needed to do a lot of that and the grocery delivering which would've bogged this down. The later Putt Putts and other Humongous Entertainment games are definitely item retrieval adventure games with mild puzzles, and they always have arcade minigames a la the mowing part, but it's never central or required in the story.
Also, the other Humongous Entertainment games I played had multiple scenarios that were possible, so each playthrough could be slightly different. This one didn't seem to have that from what I could tell and read. However, there is still some replayability since you could get the Coins in different ways and could choose between a Paint Job or a Car Wash.
Finally, this one definitely has a more kid-y vibe to it. Of course all the games are kid-friendly and intended for kids, but the other ones are decidedly a) more complicated and b) less focused on appaering as a game for kids, instead just having cute kid-friendly characters while being a full-fledged point and click adventure game (imo).
All that being said, this was the first and really high-quality for its time and you know how I love a sunset ending
