Before I knew what Evil Dead or survival-horror were, I played this game. After playing the classics of the genre, I can look back at this and say that it was interesting but not great. There are some very nice, spooky pre-rendered backgrounds and fun monster designs that definitely frightened and intrigued me at this impressionable age. It does however, commit the cardinal video game sin of featuring infinitely respawning enemies. Bummer. As an entry point into survival-horror games though, I could certainly have done a lot worse. It’ll always hold a special place in my heart for being where that spark first flickered to life. Subsequent viewings of Evil Dead 2 have definitely been enriched by knowing that there was a possessed hillbilly family right next door the whole time.
Funny how we used to get games based on cult-horror movies from the 80’s and now we get no games based on any movies, ever!
