I think one thing that makes this game work so well is how much more fleshed out and flavorful the cast is. It's much harder to dislike the characters in ME2, where as in ME1 I felt like I didn't care about any of the human characters.

I can't believe they changed the Tali picture in Mass Effect 3. Who do I contact to begin the riots?

I love that you can still get the best omni-tool in the game well within an hour of leaving the citadel. Nothing like being OP before you even start the main series of missions.

I’ll give this remaster one thing, random planets are a lot prettier now.

God bless the forward boost on the Mako. It’s the one thing I have already wished the Mako had. Now climbing 90° is even easier!

So BioWare made the thresher maw fights even more tedious than they were originally. That’s wonderful.

I’m increasingly feeling I’m correct in my theory that the AI has been dumbed down in the Legendary Edition. I’ve had multiple enemies walk right up to me and stand beside me, not firing even one round of bullets at me. I’m increasingly feeling I’m correct in my theory that the AI has been dumbed down in the Legendary Edition. I’ve had multiple enemies walk right up to me and stand beside me, not firing even one round of bullets at me. The early game should be a bit of a challenge because you are low on skills, equipment, etc. But enemies aren’t putting a scratch on my Shepard. Contrast this to my run earlier this year in which I needed to plan my attacks well before my skills could cover me in hairier fights. Something feels off, and it doesn’t feel great.

Ugh, BioWare did one of the top five things I didn’t want them to do. They gave Shepard a stamina metre outside of battle. You can now run a tiny bit faster when out of combat (e.g. running in the citadel) but you run out of stamina. Not only could you run indefinitely out of combat in the original, you …

Ugh, BioWare did one of the top five things I didn’t want them to do. They gave Shepard a stamina metre outside of battle. You can now run a tiny bit faster when out of combat (e.g. running in the citadel) but you run out of stamina. Not only could you run indefinitely out of combat in the original, you could run without the wobbly combat run animation. Now the game forces the awkward wobble on you anywhere you run and forces you take a breather every two seconds.

Definitive edition my ass!

Mass Effect 1 beaten and 7 hours into ME2, this is an amazing way to get into the franchise, and an even better way to experience the first game. Highly recommend

This was a real test in self control. I don't need this. I own all 3 games, and I'm the rare person who thinks the first one is fine (in fact, I'm a wacko who prefers the combat in the first game.) ...but man I'd love to replay those on my PS5...

I quite love the original Mass Effect, so consider that this fact colours my perception, but I don’t find the combat much improved in Mass Effect Legendary Edition. It feels about the same. Aiming down the sites may be a bit better but I don’t feel this remaster adds any depth to the combat that was lacking in the original. In fact, I think the AI is worse in the Legendary Edition. I’ve been having problems with enemies taking cover behind objects and never emerging. They even seem to be attempting to shoot through cover. There were several times on Eden Prime where I had to flank Geth in a way I’ve never had to do in past just to get them to look my way.

The new lifting of the weapon class restrictions is already bothering me. I’m not sure why they thought this was a good idea. Especially since after every conversation with someone the game switches me to a sniper rider no matter what weapon I was previously using. It’s frustrating to expect a pistol, to run into close combat and to aim down the sites only to have the hyper narrow POV of a sniper scope.

So far the game is gorgeous but it’s not mechanically very different except where it’s worse.

Holy crap does this look crisp. It’s wonderful to play this on a console and not see the amount of aliasing or jaggies that was present on the PS3/360. Gorgeous.

Also PSA for anyone new to Mass Effect: choose classic mode over legendary mode when picking level scaling. Legendary tries to shoehorn the first game into the more limited level progression of ME2 and ME3, something that can hamper your ability to put key points into something like the Charm skill quickly and early on. Being able to spec into Charm and other crucial main skills can drastically improve your early game.
