I finally finished Mass Effect 2 -- it only took me a few years! -- and it's easily a 5-star game like the first one. And I agree with almost everything from that original review, with the obvious exception of the Mako missions. I don't miss the tedium of the explorations, but I do miss being able to explore and find interesting things and settlements in a way that feels natural. I didn't enjoy scanning planets or the fact that discovering settlements or other missions just drop you straight into it (vs rolling up to it in a vehicle like the Mako). I really loved the character loyalty missions, they were all unique and interesting. Really great game!

This is on sale at Steam for 5.99. Absolutely would recommend this game at full price so take advantage while you can.

Apparently I acquired a copy of this at some point, and just discovered it when cleaning up my PC. Maybe it was in a humble bundle? Apparently I acquired a copy of this at some point, and just discovered it when cleaning up my PC. Maybe it was in a humble bundle? I still had Origin rather than the EA app, so that tells you how often I was accessing game launchers outside of Steam or Epic. Anyway, I don't understand how I missed playing these games and remained mainly unaware of any spoiling type info other than a controversial ending. (Don't even know the details of it.) I've always known they existed so I can't understand why I avoided them through the years. Regardless, I am having a great time playing through 1 now, and feel like a kid who just wants to play every chance I get. I doubt I will sink the hours to do multiple playthroughs at this stage in life, but I definitely see myself playing through all 3 without switching to any major games in between.

Mass Effect 1 gameplay definitely feels a bit dated, but I don't get the Mako vehicle hate. I enjoyed driving around as an intermediate between fighting and talking. At least I liked it more than the scanning minigame in Mass Effect 2.

5 hours in and I'm already loving this game! I just played through KOTOR last year after getting my Steam Deck and loved that, this definitely feels like a direct successor without the Star Wars IP attached, but with tons more polish and quality of life improvements.

I actually have KOTOR 2 on my backlog and I'm afraid this game will ruin it for me when I do get around to it given that it'll probably feel like a couple steps back, but I don't want to quit now that I'm getting into the groove of this one.

FemShep / Vanguard / Paragon / Garrus / Synthesis

ME1: Dated combat, great decision making, serious chunks of boring gameplay, hetero nonsense.

ME2: Now that's a spicy meataball. Garrus is bae even if the romances are awkwardly written. Hilarious how much it fits the late 2000s tropes (gritty/dark, everyone says "bitch" all the time, morally grey).

ME3: Fucking incredible until …

I did the Leviathan DLC today, and am about to start the Citadel DLC. I missed playing the DLC release back when it first released but now that I am playing it does make me a more complete game.

So just completed Mass Effect 1 Legendary edition. Played original several times, I like the new edition. The mako is a lot more fun.

And it dawned on me, that Saren could have just docked at the Citadel when he was a Spectre and activated the relay, without all the effort to find the conduit. Maybe I'm wrong.

I am on ME3 on my playthrough through these games, this is my favorite Shepard that I have played through with just how it feels to go through and playing on a harder difficulty than I have before.

In general I really like the game. It’s a good central story, I like the Star Trek Federation-esque makeup of the Council. The remaster has some very beautiful and breathtaking scenes. The music is often beautiful and the worlds feel alive outside of quests. But I’m now 11 hours into 2 and the quests are all exactly the same. Fight through a winding corridor/cargo bay of very similar design facing staggered hordes of a relatively narrow selection of enemies to get to [quest destination]. Rinse and repeat.

One of the many reasons I consider TW3 one of the greatest games ever is that the quests can have a lot of variety to them. I hope the rest of ME2 and 3 give me some more variety and make the world feel real.
